W. S. Gilbert’s poem “I have a song to sing, O� set to music by Arthur Sullivan in ‘The Yeoman of the Guard’ or, The Merryman and His Maid’ (1888) is an example of a ‘cumulative’ song – where each verse gets progressively longer. It originally appears as a duet in the G&S opera, and gained popularity outside that world with Peter, Paul and Mary’s rendition, as recorded on their 1969 album “Peter, Paul and Mommy.� – introducing the world of G&S to a completely new audience. This arrangement is for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. It is an excellent introduction to the music of Gilbert & Sullivan, a teachable moment about form, and a perfect sing-a-long tune to include on any family oriented, community outreach program. Onward Christian Soldier by Arthur Sullivan was composed in 1871. It is a lively and compelling march that has been continuously popular with Protestant congregations for 150 years. The Salvation Army adopted it as a favorite processional early in the 20th C. This hymn is often sung at military funerals including that of American president Eisenhower in1969. Apart from its obvious martial associations, the song has also been embraced by political causes such as the American civil rights movement.
It is arranged here as an Intermediate Piano Solo and is included in McIntire's series, Gospel Piano Series. Other hymns in the series include: The Church in the Wildwood, Bring Them In, Wonderful Words of Jesus, Whispering Hope and Jesus Is Calling.

The Mikado; or, The Town of Titipu is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert, their ninth of fourteen operatic collaborations. It opened on 14 March 1885, in London, where it ran at the Savoy Theatre for 672 performances. The popular overture contains several themes from the opera and makes an attractive piano solo lasting about 8 minutes.
