Small Ensemble Percussion,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890710 Composed by John Pitts. Celtic,Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and parts. 204 pages. Intensely Pleasant Music #3424709. Published by Intensely Pleasant Music (A0.890710). Gaelic Faram (Jig in Kiev) for 2 pianos and 2 percussionists - 15 minutes. SCORE & PARTS         Designed as a companion piece for Bartok’s famous Sonata for 2 pianos and percussion, Gaelic Faram (Jig in Kiev) was composed for the Kiev Piano Duo (Oleksandra Zaytseva and Dmytro Tavanets) and percussionists Dmytro Ulyanov and Yevhen Ulyanov for the final concert of the Kiev Chamber Music Session Festival 2012.  Fully revised 2016.  This is a note-filled, virtuosic piece inspired by British folksong, and includes adaptations of the Dargason jig and the reel Mary Mack, and starts with an attempt to capture some of the ornamented and decorated melody lines typical of Scottish bagpipes.  The percussion is either designed to be set out in 4 groups that the performers move between, or if enough percussion is available for each percussionist to have their own (eg: tubular bells, xylophone, drum kit), then they can be set out in two groups, as in the pictures below. [In this 2016 revision, Percussionist II also uses one timp.][Also available: Scene from Gaelic Faram (Jig in Kiev) - a new arrangement of a 6-minute scene from the full 15-minute piece, just for 2 pianos, was made in 2016 for the Australian Piano Duo (Vicky Yang & Maggie Chen).]

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Mandolin - Digital Download SKU: A0.1017673 Composed by Turlough Ó Carolan. Arranged by Gordon Jackson. Baroque,Celtic,Classical,Folk,World. Score and parts. 1 pages. Gordon Jackson #6434557. Published by Gordon Jackson (A0.1017673). Planxty IrwinTurlough Ó Carolan (1670-1738) was an Irish harper and composer. Carolan’s music does not sit comfortably in any one particular musical tradition. He was the product of a long line of Irish harpers dating from medieval times or before. He was also aware of Irish folk music, with many of his tunes having a ‘trad’ quality, particularly in his jig-like compositions. Finally, Carolan was influenced by the music of Italian Baroque composers that he would have heard played at the great houses he visited. Carolan’s Draught is an example of the latter. This pleasant little tune is actually titled ‘Colonel John Irwin’ (Carolan’s modus operandi was to compose tunes, often with lyrics, in honour of his wealthy patrons and their various family members). However, this one has become much more widely known as ‘Planxty Irwin’. A planxty is a tune, usually lively, composed in honour of a patron, although the actual etymology of the word is unknown, and may even have been coined by Carolan himself. For my arrangement of the tune I have written a counterpoint, which comes in second time around. Whilst the basic melody is mostly ‘swung’, i.e. with beats comprising dotted quaver-semiquaver-quaver (dotted 16th-32nd-16th), the counterpoint is ‘straight’, i.e. a quaver-quaver-quaver beat (16th-16th-16th). This creates a pleasant (I hope!) syncopation throughout.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.778226 Composed by John McAllister. Contemporary,Folk,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 52 pages. John McAllister #6665567. Published by John McAllister (A0.778226). Pitt Street Bridge was commissioned by the Moultrie Middle School Band to be premiered at the 2020 SCMEA Conference. The remains of the Pitt Street Bridge lie in the Intercoastal Waterway and in what is now called Pickett Bridge Recreation Area. It is within walking distance from the middle school, and it is an integral part of Mt. Pleasant’s history. Originally designed as a trolley bridge that connected Sullivan’s Island and Mount Pleasant, Pitt Street Bridge is now a haven for recreation and relaxation. The lively melodies throughout the piece depict the festive activities that take place on Pitt Street Bridge. The piece opens as though one is standing on the Pitt Street Bridge, gazing out at the immensely beautiful surroundings. Slow and serene as the sun blankets the harbor and the marsh. The bridge has a tremendous history, dating back to the revolutionary war, which is where the melody begins. Deconstructed from part of Sir Peter Parker, a song about the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. A distant memory, this melody will find itself in many ways throughout (three notes rising diatonically followed by a falling 3rd). The woodwinds pattern in the opening (which also appears throughout), represents the ripples in the water, flowing gently back and forth. The military past of the bridge is hinted at in two ways. The snare in the opening, reminiscent of the rudimental style and several harmonies throughout that hint at an Americana style. As the piece picks up tempo, the hustle and bustle of 1920s Charleston comes to life. Harmonically, everything is still built off of the foundation of the original tune, but now we’re in bright and joyous times and people are transported to and from the island in the Roarin’ 20s. The optimism abounds until the climax of the piece as the bridge (musically speaking), fades into the past. At the finale, one is standing on the bridge with the distant melody still played on the flute.

Small Ensemble Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890705 Composed by John Pitts. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 21 pages. Intensely Pleasant Music #3424699. Published by Intensely Pleasant Music (A0.890705). Are you going? (1997) triet 5 minutes This is somewhat minimalistic, and polyphonic between the three players. It includes a number of sections in which the tempo of one of the pianists gradually speeds up or slows down while the others keep a steady pulse. Like Raag Gezellig it is in 7 beats per bar, but unlike Raag Gezellig it is fast throughout. The theme is the English folk-melody Are you going to Scarborough Fair.  A studio recording (performed by Steven Kings, Daniella Acker and John Pitts) is available from Hyperion/1equalmusic www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_1EMIPM08  The first concert performance was at the Kiev Chamber Music Session Festival 2010 by the Kiev Piano Duo (Oleksandra Zaytseva & Dmytro Tavanets) with Antoniy Baryshevkiy. https://youtu.be/yDWgfjI3qPchttps://youtu.be/nQYEiDX0Jj0
