Piano Trio Cello,Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488223 Composed by Ferdinand Ries. Arranged by Dianne James. Classical. 64 pages. Artaria Editions #1065109. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488223). Ferdinand Ries (1784-1838) was one of the greatest pianists of his time and a composer of exceptional abilities. Ries studied pianoforte (but not composition) with Beethoven in Vienna and the two men remained on cordial terms for the rest of their lives. In the last year of his life Ries co-wrote a book of Beethoven reminiscences that remain one of the most valuable sources of information about his life and character. The place and date of composition of the Sonate Sentimentale is uncertain in spite of the apparently conclusive evidence to the contrary: Ries's autograph score is dated 'Godesberg 1814' but by this time Ries was living in London. The discrepancy is probably due to the fact that Ries added the date to this manuscript, as he did to many others, in the 1820s. One of the most intriguing aspects of this work is the difference between Ries's original conception and the work as it appeared in its first published edition in 1834. The extent of the changes points to a substantial authorial revision of the work made prior to publication rather than a garbled transmission of the original text. Among the most striking of these changes is the inclusion of a brief introduction to the first movement; but other passages are extensively rewritten and in some instances lengthened by the inclusion of additional material. As with all Ries's works for flute, the Sonate Sentimentale is exceptionally well written for the instrument and yet perhaps even more impressive is the way in which Ries balances the musical texture and exploits the full potential of both the flute and piano. The beautiful work is arguably the most impressive flute sonata of the early 19th century. Allan Badley.

Cello and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6647 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Op. 79. Duration 18 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6647. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6647). Key: E flat major. The composer Johanna Senfter (1879-1961) from Oppenheim studied composition with Max Reger in Leipzig. Her expressive style is characterised by polyphonic settings and late-Romantic harmony. Sonate für Violoncello und Klavier Opus 79 was written by Johanna Senfter around 1935. But it was not before 1993 that the long forgotten cello sonata was released on CD for the first time. The current edition of the previously unpublished sonata, now presented by us, is based on the autograph kept at the library of the Cologne Hochschule für Musik. A rewarding concert piece for advanced cellists.

String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488294 Composed by William Shield. Arranged by Robert Hoskins. Classical. 29 pages. Artaria Editions #1065182. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488294). Artaria Editions AE429Shield's Trios, written for a continental audience, are seminal works in the composer's output and mark a new level of compositional attainment in the English chamber music repertory. Technically, they contain a wide variety of ideas which are developed with great ingenuity through a wide range of keys, dynamic contrasts and timbral effects. Aesthetically, they blend 'popular' and 'learned' taste along with 'orchestral' splendour and 18th century notions of beauty. The Trios present a dazzling range of moods and style with each work demonstrating Shield's mastery of the idiom, both in his treatment of individual instruments and in the handling of textures. While there is no shortage of melody and accompaniment, in which the violin takes the lead, there are many memorable solos for the viola and the cello in its high register. The wide range of textures includes melodic decoration, dialogue, contrast of high and low register, legato and staccato, powerful unison and double octaves. Shield's ability to incorporate arioso-like melody, the prevailing 'symphonic' style and folk elements was largely achieved through the cross-generic requirements of English comic opera (a form to which Shield devoted himself during the whole of his creative career). In general, Shield's technique results in a firm control of the way music moves - with sometimes a surprising degree of stylistic restlessness and sometimes of unexpected plainness and simplicity. Shield's three previously unpublished string trios are preserved in autograph score in the British Library under the call number Ms.Add.51015; they provide the only source for this edition. This present edition presents as faithfully as possible the intentions of these sources. The style and notation of articulation and dynamic markings have been standardised throughout and, where missing, markings have been reconstructed from parallel passages. The notation of appoggiature has also been standardised to minimise confusion. Obvious wrong notes have been corrected without comment; editorial emendations with no authority from the source are placed within brackets. Robert Hoskins.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.868902 Composed by Lev PULVER (1883 – 1970). Arranged by Sergei PICHUGIN. 20th Century,Jewish,Standards,World. Score and parts. 82 pages. Really Good Music, LLC. #4822415. Published by Really Good Music, LLC. (A0.868902). This is the first publication of the Jewish Dance for cello solo (arranged for viola solo) and symphony orchestra by Lev PULVER (1883 – 1970), based on the autograph manuscript of the orchestral score, realized and edited by Sergei Pichugin. The piece was composed in 1942–43 in the midst of World War II. Presumably it was never performed since 1950, being completely forgotten. Jewish Dance is definitely among the masterpieces of Yiddish musical culture of the 20th century. Introductory text to the publication, written by Sergei Pichugin, includes a short biography of the composer and a description of the Jewish Dance.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742401 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Baroque,Concert,Standards,World. Score and parts. 111 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #3005423. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742401). The four orchestral suites (called ouvertures by their author), BWV 1066–1069 are four suites by Johann Sebastian Bach. The name ouverture refers only in part to the opening movement in the style of the French overture, in which a majestic opening section in relatively slow dotted-note rhythm in duple meter is followed by a fast fugal section, then rounded off with a short recapitulation of the opening music. More broadly, the term was used in Baroque Germany for a suite of dance-pieces in French Baroque style preceded by such an ouverture. This genre was extremely popular in Germany during Bach's day, and he showed far less interest in it than was usual: Robin Stowell writes that Telemann's 135 surviving examples [represent] only a fraction of those he is known to have written;[1] Christoph Graupner left 85; and Johann Friedrich Fasch left almost 100. Bach did write several other ouverture (suites) for solo instruments, notably the Cello Suite no. 5, BWV 1011, which also exists in the autograph Lute Suite in G minor, BWV 995, the Keyboard Partita no. 4 in D, BWV 828, and the Overture in the French style, BWV 831 for keyboard. The two keyboard works are among the few Bach published, and he prepared the lute suite for a Monsieur Schouster, presumably for a fee, so all three may attest to the form's popularity.Scholars believe that Bach did not conceive of the four orchestral suites as a set (in the way he conceived of the Brandenburg Concertos), since the sources are various, as detailed below. The Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis catalogue includes a fifth suite, BWV 1070 in G minor. However, this work is highly unlikely to have been composed by J. S. Bach. Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestral_suites_(Bach)

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1473062 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Halloween,Historic. 36 pages. Jmsgu3 #1050683. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1473062). The Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565, is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous organ compositions. It follows a typical North German structure with three main sections - a free opening (Toccata), a fugal section (fugue), and a short free closing section. The exact date of composition is uncertain, but it's believed to have been written before 1708. There is no surviving autograph manuscript. The oldest known source is an undated copy by Johannes Ringk, a student of one of Bach's pupils. It was first published in 1833 through the efforts of composer Felix Mendelssohn during the early Bach Revival period. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in Disney's 1940 film Fantasia, where it was adapted for orchestra by Leopold Stokowski. The piece has become strongly associated with horror films and Gothic imagery in Western culture. The Toccata begins with dramatic flourishes and arpeggios, showcasing the organist's virtuosity. The fugue is characterized by overlapping repetitions of the central theme in different melodic lines. It employs simple triadic harmony but includes some unexpected elements, such as a C minor subject entry and a solo pedal statement.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.790132 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Diamond S Music. Baroque,Concert,Instructional. Score. 3 pages. Diamond S Music #3664633. Published by Diamond S Music (A0.790132). 2-Part Invention No. 10 in G major by J.S. BACH, BWV 781 for Solo Piano. This is the original version of the beloved 15 2-Part Inventions by Johann Sebastian Bach. The Inventions is a collection of short pieces Bach wrote for the musical education of his young pupils. These are among the finest examples of artistic gems ever written for this purpose, and probably because of this, they became very popular among Bach's pupils and others ever since they were written. The work comprises fifteen two-part, each named 'inventio', and fifteen three-part pieces, named 'sinfonia'. These two groups of pieces are arranged in an identical fashion-in ascending order by key-so that there is little doubt that Bach's intention was to bring them together as a single work. This is also confirmed by the way they are carefully written in his autograph fair copy penned in 1723. On every facing page of an open volume each piece demonstrates the contrapuntal technique, while, at the same time, explores a wide range of musical expressions using various styles and developing the motives in a logical fashion.  Other similar arrangements and selections from DIAMOND S MUSIC available at: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/diamond-s-music/6940

Basso continuo - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6106 Weihnachtsmesse (liturgisch). Composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. This edition: separate part. Eulenburg Orchestral Series. Downloadable, Individual part. Duration 20 minutes. Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital #Q6106. Published by Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital (S9.Q6106). Latin.Of the 11 surviving settings of the Mass by Charpentier, the present work, the Messe de minuit, is without doubt one of the most popular. Although Charpentier's Parisian career is quite well documented, little is known about the genesis and first performance of the Messe de minuit. It is likely, however, that it was commissioned by the Jesuits of the church of Saint-Louis (today, Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis) for whom Charpentier had been working as maître de musique since 1687. The Messe de minuit belongs to the tradition of the parody-mass for which Charpentier adapted 10 noëls - whose titles are given in the autograph MS - to the text of the ordinary and the resulting music is fresh, charming and jubilant.

Violin and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45875 For violin and piano. Composed by Ottorino Respighi. This edition: score and part. Early work - piano - violin. Downloadable, Score and part. Duration 5 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45875. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45875). The Sarabanda for violin and piano (P015a) is a short composition consisting of three pages dated 1897, published here for the first time. The original manuscript is part of the private archive of Potito Pedarra, cataloguer of Ottorino Respighi’s compositional legacy. Ottorino Respighi composed this work during his youth in the same year as the Sonata in D minor (1897, P015), Giga (P015b) and Allegretto vivace (P015c), all scored for violin and piano. In 1898, Respighi transposed the Sarabanda to F major in order to incorporate it into the Suite per pianoforte (P022, unedited). Traces of the Sarabanda’s theme are recognizable in the Grave (Tempo di Sarabanda) of the second part of the unedited ballet Le Astuzie di Colombina (Scherzo veneziano), composed in 1920 (P130, unedited). The autograph manuscript of the Sarabanda for violin and piano has a number of posthumous markings which have not been included in this edition.
