Without any introduction the piece begins in four-part harmony and in a deeply reflective expression. As is the original, there are many meter changes. The second section is carried exclusively in the trombones until it is taken over by muted trumpets until consummated with harmonic divergence. The final section is established by the trumpets with subtle underpinning by the trombones. With one final strong presentation of the tune the piece concludes in repose- as one might expect.

The first variation is a gently modified tune in duple with the accompaniment in triplets. In variation two, the tune is rhythmically altered while the upper accompaniment is presented in a spritely fashion. Variation three, the tune is in a triplet moving nature while the theme is in block harmonization in the accompaniment. Variation four is expressive in an almost cadenza fashion. Finally, the Fugue is in a lively four voice manner, ending with a strong proclamation of the title, itself.

A brass trio scored for trumpet, horn (opt. trp.) and trombone, (opt BHTC), The introduction opens with a motive that is passed amongst the three parts, The first presentation of the tune is likewise fragmented and passed around the ensemble giving a lot of interest- this carries on throughout the whole first section. The second section's emphasis is given to the trombone and later handed over to the upper voices. A modulation takes place where the style is much like the introduction. This continues on until the coda where it begins quietly and builds to a statement of affirmation.

The next section uses motivic patterns while passing portions of the tune to the various players. A modulation- then the parts become increasingly more active in a variation style. A transition is now presented in an imitation of parts with dynamic changes for interest and further then the cello takes over with the tune while the upper parts give harmonic support. The piece progresses to be more block in harmonic and rhythmical structure only to be turned over to imitation in the melodic material. The coda section is much like the introduction material and builds in dynamic force, only to be concluded with a pizzicato final note.
