Composed by Kara Williams. Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,March. Score and Parts. 69 pages. Kara Williams #870997. Published by Kara Williams (A0.1279514).

The third movement from the four movement 'Suite in Sea' written for clarinet and piano by Kara Williams, 'Brew Time March' has been orchestrated for wind ensemble by the composer and has since proven to be a favourite with performers and audiences.

We follow a young sailor as they excitedly hear the bugle call to have a break from work (brew time), grab a coffee (brew) and sit on the bow to watch the waves… lost in thoughts, the young sailor unexpectedly hears the sound of work recommencing, and scurries back, making it just in the nick of time… waiting eagerly for next the next call for Brew Time!

Opening with the 'Stand Easy' (break time) bugle call, Brew Time March is full of familiarly-sea-worthy sounds, and is a fun concert march that would be a great addition to any ensemble's library.

In the style of a traditional military march, unless otherwise specified, notes should be played slightly detached throughout. Ensure the bass solo has plenty of attitude, and the rhythmic accompanying parts let the melodies breathe. Use a small set of crash cymbals (if parade-style cymbals are not available) - your percussionist will thank you! Also, hit the cymbals together slightly off-centre for zing and dynamic control, and hold the edges of the cymbals against the body to choke the ring where indicated. Keep this march a very steady two-feel throughout; however, feel free to completely stress the upper woodwinds out by going as fast as musically possible where marked at the end :-)

Brew Time March runs for around 2:45 and is scored for full wind ensemble; however, it will work without one, some, or all the following parts: piccolo, 4th clarinet, baritone sax, bass clarinet, bassoon, horns in F, and bass trombone.

Brass Ensemble Baritone Horn TC,Cornet,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download

Composed by Oskar Bohme. Arranged by Roar Kvam. 19th Century,20th Century,Chamber,Romantic Period. 173 pages. KVAMusic Edition #948677. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.1364386).

Böhmeâ??s Brass Sextet (Trompeten-Sextett) op.30, composed in 1911, undoubtedly ranks among the finest brass music produced by the romantic era. The title refers to the distinctive symmetry of the instrumentation: four instruments from the trumpet family and framed by two representative of the bugle family. The use of the trumpet was remarkable at the time because the characteristic brass ensembles of the period consisted exclusively of bugle-family instruments. It was for such a group of 2 cornets, alto, tenor and baritone horn, for example, that Viktor Ewald wrote his well known quintets.
The question of which instrument to use of the exposed and rather high bass part, intended by the composer for the â??high Bb tubaâ? is tricky. A great tubist could play it on an F or Eb tuba, but a more compact ensemble sound is obtainable with a euphonium or small French Bb tuba.

SKU: A0.912496

Composed by By Thomas R. Schadl. Concert,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #4992619. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912496).

The opening movement is composed in a sonata form and consists of three sections: exposition, development and recapitulation.

The exposition begins with a stately introduction that consists of pointed rhythms. After the opening theme has been stated, there are two sections that employ canonic imitation of motives at measures 9 to 12 and 21 to 32. The closing theme depicts a bugle passage that is imitative in nature. The development section usually states thematic materials from the exposition section, but it is not always the case in some compositions. Take, for example, the middle section (measures 42 to 83) that contrasts the opening theme in its lyricism; its melody is written in the stepwise manner and is imitated in the pedal part. The recapitulation is a section where the restatement of the main theme and other sections, including the extended version of the bugle theme, recur after concluding the middle section of the sonata form. The piece ends triumphantly in a FFF passage.

The work is educational in that it teaches students the sections that make up a sonata form. This piece is suitable for recital use.

This fun arrangement by Jari Villanueva captures the flavor of the original tunes and would be a great selection for a holiday concert or as a special presentation around Christmas and Hanukkah. Included is a Full Score, 3 Trumpets in Bb, 2 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba and Drums. Also included are substitute parts for Eb Horn and Baritone TC

A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles.
