Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.540710 Composed by Therese Brenet. Contemporary,New Age. Score and parts. 39 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #62093. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.540710). The composer writes : This work was premièred on April 27, 2003 at the Eglise Saint-Roch in Paris with the prestigious Orchestre de la Musique de L’Armée de L’Air, under the direction of my friend and colleague, Claude Picheraureau. I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the Cosmos, which has inspired many of my works. Feelings of infinite movement can be expressed musically and it seemed to me that one of the ways to do this was to end this work on a repeated phrase played in a long perdendosi, to give the impression that one is hearing the echoes of the finished phrase as the instruments stop playing. I had just started to write this work when I received a note for the Paris Observatory which gave me the news that the astronomical community had decided to name a newly discovered asteroid for Jean-Pierre Luminet. When I wrote to Jean-Pierre to congratulate him on this honour, reminding him with the Petit Prince that not everyone has their own star, I asked him if he would accept that I name this work for concert band with the full name of his asteroid: 5523 Luminet 1991 PH8. Jean-Pierre accepted my proposition by return letter : ..., not only do I not have any objection, but I would be very honoured. To be in the celestial spheres in the form of a rock and also in the form of music, what more could one ask for? The work is scored for : Piccolo 2 Flûtes/2 Flutes 2 Hautbois/2 Oboes Cor Anglais/English Horn 2 Bassons/2 Bassoons Contrebasson/Contrabassoon Petite Clarinette en Mib/Eb Clarinet 1ers Clarinettes en Sib/1st Bb Clarinets : 2mes Clarinettes en Sib/2nd Bb Clarinets Clarinette Basse/Bass Clarinet 1er Saxophone Alto en Mib/1st Eb Alto Saxophone 2me Saxophone Alto en Mib/2nd Eb Alto Saxophone Saxophone Ténor en Sib/Bb Tenor Saxophone Saxophone Baryton en Mib/Eb Baritone Saxophone 4 Cors en fa/4 F Horns 2 trompettes en Sib/2 Bb Trumpets 2 cornets en Sib/2 Bb Cornets 2 Trombones Ténors/2 Tenor Trombones Trombone Basse/Bass Trombone Euphonium Tuba en Ut/Tuba in C Contrebasse à cordes/String Bass Harpe/Harp Timbales/Tympani Percussion I : Marimba Cloches en Tube/Tubular Bells &wRt Grosse Caisse/Bass Drum = G.C Tambour/Field Drum = Tamb. Gareth Jones, University of Calgary, 28 Janaury, 2011Première of the version for violin and 17 instruments: Frédéric Moisan, violin Orchestre 21 cond. Paolo Bellomio, Unveristy of Montreal, Canada, 2 March 2012Preface:In the early 1890s, Debussy composed the opening of a lyrical piece in E major for violin and piano, perhaps as a shorter companion piece for the violin Nocturne he was planning for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. After Debussy’s death in 1918, his second wife Emma often gave away sketch pages to performers or composers as memorials to her beloved husband , and this particular page was given to the Cuban born pianist and composer Joaquin Nin (1879-1949). It came up for sale in the catalogue of the British antiquarian dealer Lisa Cox in 2010 and although it might possibly be an early song for contralto and piano, the more dynamic idea in bar 12 strongly suggests the violin, especially as it begins on an open D string. Moreover, there is no text and in pieces of this length, Debussy usually wrote at least one word in, if only to remind himself where he had got to in any song. So my starting point was a complete 12-bar melody gently undulating in the violin’s lowest register over a sensual accompaniment, rising to a climax in bar 12 and giving me a contrasting idea that I could use as a link between sections and in the cadenza. As the B section (bars 14-26) derives directly from Debussy’s opening theme by metamorphosis, my own additions were restricted to the central section (bars 27-57) - comprising a new scherzando idea (C) and the more lyrical D (bars 36-46). C returns at bar 47, followed by the opening sections in reverse order, so that the Sérénade begins and ends with Debussy’s material and is cast in arch form (ABCDCBA). Robert OrledgeBrighton, 19 June 2019Robert Orledge was born in Bath in 1948 and educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he gained his doctorate for his study of the composer Charles KÅ“chlin in 1973.   Between 1971 and 1991 He rose from Lecturer to Professor in the Music Department of the University of Liverpool, publishing books on Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Charles KÅ“chlin and Erik Satie, as well as numerous articles, editions and reviews.   As a historical musicologist, Professor Orledge specialized in the way composers composed, ,and since taking early retirement in 2004, he has concentrated on completing and orchestrating Debussy’s unfinished works, and especially his theatre projects. His completion of Debussy’s opera The Fall of the House of Usher (1908-17) was successfully premiered at the Bregenz Opera Festival in Austria in August 2006 and has since been performed in America, Portugal Germany and Holland, as well as being broadcast throughout Europe. A DVD of the Bregenz premier is available on Capriccio 93517, produced by Phylida Lloyd and conducted by Lawrence Foster. His completion of the Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence (1914) was also premiered in 2006 in Los Angeles and ot.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024914 Composed by Manny Cepeda. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 35 pages. Manny Cepeda #3628527. Published by Manny Cepeda (A0.1024914). There is a saying in Southern California El Mero Mero also know in the United States saying as The Real McCoy. That is the idea expressed on this arrangement. A percussionist (Timbale Player), who is so good, no one is equal to him/her. At the end of the chart, there's a reference to a traditional song of the Mexican Mariachi band, giving more validity to the arrangement. This chart is best suited for advance Junio College bands and College Afro-Cuban/Caribbean Ensembles. It's rich with rhythm from Cuba and Puerto Rico and it requires a complete Afro-Cuban/Caribbean percussion section; Bongos, Timbales, Congas, and CowBell plus a well season singer fluent in Spanish to perform the chart properly. The chart would be a heck of an opener tune for a concert or performance.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933610 Composed by Thomas Coker. 20th Century,Instructional,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Thomas Rembert Coker Jr #3503503. Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933610). To quote Wikipedia: Sweet Betsy from Pike is an American ballad about the trials of a pioneer named Betsy and her lover Ike who migrate from Pike County (Missouri?) to California. The cover art here is drawn by artist, Kaytha Coker Potts, whose image captures the imagined Betsy and Ike as they cross rivers, plains, and mountains on the way to California. The music for the various movements of Sweet Betsy, similarly, can be seen as musical pictures of this harrowing yet thrilling trip. Movement I pictures a joyful determination to make the trip, accompanied by energy enough to make the early struggles endurable. Movement II pictures rest and reflection. The evening comes when one thinks through the events of the day with peace and anticipation of continuing the journey tomorrow. Movement III paints the joy of the journey with the end in sight. High energy and much joy is found here. This sonatina was inspired by – and in many ways patterned after – Dmitri Kabalevsky’s Sonatina Op. 13, No. 1.  The first movement, Allegretto, imitates Kabalevsky’s use of the arch phrase in which two bars are mirrored by the following two bars. As the movement progresses, the tempo adjusts to meet continuing challenges – all filled with energy.    In the second movement, Introspection Andante, one takes the time to rest and reflect and, in so doing, to find the mental and musical balance needed on a journey as well as in music.  Movement III, the sonatina’s name sake, is in rondo form and rollicks along in b minor and 6/8 meter. The tune, Sweet Betsy, always in mind yet unstated, finally erupts three times in the center section, first in the left hand (in B Major), then a second time (in F Major) before appearing in the right hand (in C# Major) while accompanied (in B Major) in the left hand. The resulting conflicting tonalities are followed by a transitional sixteenth note run leading back to the first theme in b minor as the rondo plays out.
