Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.753647 Composed by George Gershwin. Arranged by John Hoesly. 20th Century,Folk,Jazz. 52 pages. PRS&B #6202157. Published by PRS&B (A0.753647). Tag Blues: from Rhapsody In Blue- for big band/jazz ensemble arranged by John Hoesly. Based on a theme from Rhapsody In Blue by George Gershwin. Rhapsody In Blue is considered an American musical masterpiece.  Written by George Gershwin in 1924, right from it’s opening notes it conjures up The Jazz Age, The American Scene, New York City, and as Gershwin himself described, national pep. The Tag Blues is a theme from RIB that is used as connective tissue throughout the piece. It is most famously stated in the bass clarinet.  It is know as the the Good Evening Friends theme.  In this arrangement, it is lifted from RIB and presented as a stand-alone blues tune.  There is a solo for piano and tenor sax, but any member of the band could step in and solo on its simple blues changes.  Difficulty level is intermediate and certainly playable by most high school jazz ensembles.  Lead Tpt G5.

Mixed Percussion B-Flat Tuba,B-Flat trombone,Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Bass Trombone,E-Flat Cornet,E-Flat Tenor Horn,E-Flat Tuba TC,Flugelhorn,Percussion 1,Percussion 2,Tenor Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1156327 Composed by George Gershwin. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 20th Century,Blues,Classical,Jazz. Brass Band. 137 pages. RBMusic #756642. Published by RBMusic (A0.1156327). First performed by the composer at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York in 1926, the Piano Preludes (or Three Preludes) are a collection of short pieces by George Gershwin, show casing early-20th-century American classical music, as influenced by jazz. Gershwin originally planned to compose 24 preludes, wrote 7, performed only 6 publically and was further reduced to 3 when first published. The work was dedicated to friend and musical advisor Bill Daly. The first prelude begins with a five-note blues motif. It features syncopated rhythms based on the Brazilian baião and minor-seventh chords throughout. The second prelude, which Gershwin said was a sort of blues lullaby consists of two sections: the first a lazy melody upon a steady beat of crotchets; the second the bass takes the melody, continuing with the steady beats. The third prelude was called Spanish by Gershwin, and features a question-and-answer type melody, starting in a minor tonality and ending in major one. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. A recording of the original composition can be found here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soEUH4H7gog.

Folk,Multicultural,Standards,Traditional,Wedding,World. 79 pages. Zoran Radanovic #1063186. Published by Zoran Radanovic (A0.1486130). This arrangement is for professional band with set of parts.Ciocârlia (meaning the skylark) is a Romanian tune, allegedly composed by the Romani-Romanian pan flute player Anghelu? Dinicu[1][2] in the virtuosic style of the urban l?utareasc? music from late 19th century. Anghelu? Dinicu first presented the tune in 1889 at the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower. However, the most famous version would become that of his grandson Grigora? Dinicu, that adapted the tune for violin. George Enescu also was inspired by Ciocârlia for his composition the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 for orchestra. Ciocârlia has been covered numerous times, but because it is a piece of l?ut?reasc? music and not a piece of Romanian peasant music it cannot be considered representative for the Romanian peasant spirit.[3] In the case of the Ciocârlia, like with other famous tunes of l?ut?reasc? music, there were attempts to hide the name of the composer in order to make it seem anonymous/traditional.[4] It is known as Ševa (????) and ?u?uliga (????????) in Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian. It has also become highly popular in the Jewish Klezmer repertoire.[5] In Georgia, the tune became widely adopted into traditional folk music repertoire and is known as Torola (??????, the lark)[6] During the communist-era, the Romanian intelligence service operated a numbers station believed to be used by spies in foreign countries. The station known as V01 became well known for its use of Ciocârlia as its opening interval, which would be followed by a series of number-coded messages in Romanian and concluded with the words Terminat. The station fell off the air soon after the 1989 coup and overthrow of Ceausescu.[7] The song was featured as part of the soundtrack for the 2009 Ubisoft game Rabbids Go Home, performed by Moldovan gypsy brass band Fanfare Vagabontu.

RayThompsonMusic #353670. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.745773). Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by the English rock band The Beatles.Released on 26 May 1967, it spent 27 weeks at number one on the Record Retailer chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard Top LPs chart in the United States. It was lauded by critics for its innovations in songwriting, production and graphic design, for bridging a cultural divide between popular music and high art, and for reflecting the interests of contemporary youth and the counterculture. Its release was a defining moment in 1960s pop culture, heralding the Summer of Love, while the album's reception achieved full cultural legitimisation for pop music and recognition for the medium as a genuine art form. This is my arrangement of the opening number.I have transposed from the original key of G to Eb to aid the brass players.I have created a new ending for those brass quintets who wish to play the piece on it;s own, but also included the oruginal fade away ending which seques into the next track...with a little help from my friends.

Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 19th Century,Classical,Folk,Opera,Traditional. Brass Band. 121 pages. RBMusic #956255. Published by RBMusic (A0.1372035). Considered a major contribution to the develop of Czech music, The Bartered Bride by BedÅ™ich Smetana is a comic opera in three acts that premiered, in its final version, in 1870; having not been a great success when the original two-act version premiered at the Provisional Theatre, Prague on 30 May 1866. The opera was part of Smetana’s aim to create a native Czech music after the conductor Johann von Herbeck commented that Czechs were incapable of making music of their own. Whilst he avoided the direct use of folksongs, Smetana did use numerous traditional Bohemian dance forms, such as the furiant and the polka, leading to music that was Czech in spirit.“Sold Brideâ€, a more accurate translation of the original Czech title (Prodaná nevÄ›sta), tells the story of two lovers (MaÅ™enka and Jenik) who want to marry despite MaÅ™enka’s father’s obligations for his daughter to marry the son of a wealthy landowner, Micha. Scheming, condition proposals and secret identities leads to a happy ending. The polka was not in the original 1866 version. A revision in October 1866 saw the addition of a gypsy dance near the start of act 2. But by the next performance in January 1869, this had been replaced by a polka. In June 1869, a new polka replaced the January version’s (as well as being moved to the end of act 1) and this is the one that we know and love today. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 19th Century,20th Century,Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. Brass Band. 54 pages. Rob Bushnell #1086082. Published by Rob Bushnell (A0.1510871). Tosca is an opera in three acts by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The opera is set in June 1800 in Rome, and tells the story of the Kingdom of Naples and the threat to its control of Rome by Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. Some of Puccini’s best-known arias can be found in Tosca. The opera is based on Victorien Sardou’s dramatic play of the same name (La Tosca). Puccini saw the play at least twice in 1889 and begged his publisher, Giulio Ricordi, to obtain the rights to turn it into an opera, which were secured in 1891 – although Puccini relinquished the rights to Alberto Franchetti before being recommissioned in 1895. Puccini wrote “I see in this Tosca the opera I need, with no overblown proportions, no elaborate spectacle, nor will it call for the usual excessive amount of music.” It took 4 years to write, with Puccini arguing with his librettists (Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa) and his publisher. Although the first performance was delayed by a day due to the unrest in Rome at the time, the opera was premiered on 14 January 1900 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. The critics reviews were indifferent, but it was an immediate success with the public. The opera is through-composed, with the different musical elements weaved from piece to piece. Puccini used the Wagner’s leitmotif concept to identity different parts of the opera.Taken from Act 3, E lucevan le stelle is sung by Cavaradossi, a painter, who has fallen for the singer Tosca. The corrupt Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia, longs for Tosca himself and, upon suspecting Cavaradossi of helping a political prisoner escape, he takes the opportunity to get rid of Cavaradossi and blackmail Tosca into being with him. The guards lead Cavaradossi to the roof of Castel Sant'Angelo, where he is told he has 1 hour to live before being executed. He asks to write a letter to Tosca, overcome by memories, he sings E lucevan le stelle (And the starts shone). It was selected by the tenor Wynne Evans as one of the most romantic songs for his top ten arias for Classic FM. He described it as “another tenor classic, both tragic and beautiful.”This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. A recording of the original song can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAqHQMX7GHY.Other searchable terms: Luciano Pavarotti.
