This book has proven so popular that Breitkopf has since published my ‘One Hand Piano 2’.

level than the Breitkopf & Härtel books.
These are likewise not only for piano students with a broken arm, they are for music-lovers of all ages
who were possibly born with the use only one hand, or who have had a stroke or other injury temporarily or
permanently forcing them to play with one hand only. FORTUNATELY you can play a lot of great music and

Ich liebe es, für meine Klavierschüler Stücke zu schreiben, die sie begeistern, die sie ermutigen, ausdrucksvoll zu spielen, und die ihnen so viel Spaß machen, dass sie ÜBEN WOLLEN! Genau dafür sind diese 19 Stücke mit Tiermotiven gedacht! Inspiriert von meinen jüngsten Klavierschülern hatte ich viel Spaß beim Schreiben von diesen fantasievollen kleinen Stücken, die unsere Klavierstunden auf sinnvollerweise noch lustiger machen. Es hat mir besonders viel Freude gemacht, mir die Titel auszudenken: 2 Schweine diskutieren über ihr Mittagessen; Eine Schlangeträumt vom Bauchtanzen; 2 Dachse machen einen Mitternachts-Spaziergang; Ein Ameisenbär macht einen Freudentanz; Ein Tausendfüßler überlegt jemanden zu kitzeln; Eine Katze, die dich völlig ignoriert........ Es wurden verschiedene Stile verwendet - einige jazzige Stücke, mit geswungenen Achtelnoten, aber auch viele anschauliche Stücke für kleine Hände. I've been hearing from music-teacher colleagues from all over the world that there is a real need for fun, contemporary, and readily playable literature for students who want to start playing chamber music. As I know from my own students, the beautifully written pieces by Julius Klengel are simply too difficult. So this is what I've come up with - 18 extremely varied pieces for Early intermediate/Intermediate Grade 2-4 music students. The strings have some pieces where glissandi, extended pizzicato, seagull effect, and percussion (!) are required; the piano accompaniments are kept as simple as possible, but should be quite a lot of fun! The string parts have been vetted by violin and cello teachers who have added bowing suggestions.

As a former harpsichordist, I know that it's difficult finding contemporary pieces that are expressive, lyrical, enjoyable, or even fun to play! I've adapted 33 of my late elementary to late intermediate piano pieces for this collection. There are no less than 6 pieces with jazzy swung rhythms - I find jazz is delightful on the harpsichord! Other pieces are atmospheric arrangements of Scottish traditional tunes; there are pieces based on Shakespeare characters and scenes from Arthurian legends to engage the imagination of the player and the audience, a racy Tango ... and several pieces from 'The Mermaid Challenge' which are also in the new RCM Celebration Series.

As a former harpsichordist, it occurred to me that some new harpsichord repertoire
might be welcome; thus I wrote the ‘Suite Update’ using the actual movements of a
baroque suite. But I gave each movement a new twist, adding a whiff of Tango to the Allemande,
giving the Gavotte some Rumba rhythm, etc. and altogether - I had a great time!

But as my harpsichord is in dreadful condition, having been neglected for decades, I actually wrote this harpsichord work at the piano. And I have to admit that I LIKE it on the piano!!

So here is the fully pianistic version, as opposed to the harpsichord version.

To round off this book, I took four pieces from my two collections using the titles of Magritte’s surreal paintings to make a further 4-movement work, the ‘Suite Magritte’.
