Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787233 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. 11 pages. Burke & Bagley #48413. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787233). The Second Suite from Razumov derives from the second act of Razumov, Greg Bartholomew’s chamber opera based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad. The opera tells the story of a young Russian, Razumov, who is caught up in the consequences when a fellow university student, Victor Haldin, assassinates a government minister. Themes for Part 1 are taken from the opening scene of Act Two, in which Haldin’s mother, in exile in Geneva and worried by the lack of news from her son, learns that Victor was the assassin and has now been caught and executed. Part 2 is an instrumental interlude. Part 3 is based on the scene in which Razumov is urged to visit Mrs. Haldin, an encounter Razumov dreads because it was he who informed on Haldin to the government. The final Part corresponds to the scene in which Razumov learns that news received from Russia has released him from suspicion for Haldin’s death by placing responsibility on an innocent man. The Suite was commissioned by a consortium of ensembles led by the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh, who presented the world premiere performance on November 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. Choir - Digital Download SKU: A0.1071141 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred. Full Performance. Duration 300. Burke & Bagley #2880405. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.1071141). This is the second of Greg Bartholomew's three choral settings of text From the Odes of Solomon, as recorded by the Ars Brunensis Chorus.  The Odes of Solomon are believed to have been written around the year 100 A.D., and include strong parallels to the Dead Sea Scrolls. Scholars have debated whether the Odes should be considered Jewish, Christian or Gnostic, and whether they were first written in Greek, Hebrew or Syriac. Early Christian writings refer to and quote from them. A Syriac manuscript containing the text of most of the Odes was discovered in 1909 by the English scholar J. Rendel Harris, and other partial texts in various languages have also been found. There are 42 Odes. Some fragments are still missing from Odes I and III, and no part of Ode II has yet been found. For these choral settings, I selected text from four of the Odes of Solomon which I found particularly compelling. From the Odes of Solomon was premiered in concert on June 2, 2002, by the Ars Brunensis Chorus under the direction of conductor Roman Valek and choirmaster Dan Kalousek at the Husov Sbor, in Brno, Czech Republic. For more information:  www.gregbartholomew.com/odesindex.html

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1409084 Composed by Bela Bartok. Arranged by Robert A. Howard. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. 7 pages. Robert A. Howard #991687. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.1409084). This work is an arrangment of the solo piano piece No. 149 (of 153) from 'Mikrokosmos' by Bela Bartok (No. 2 of Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm). The piece is for a 7-part mixed chamber ensemble of oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, violin, viola, and cello. The instrumentation was originally for single string players, though multiple players can be used. The arrangement aims to convey typical Bartokian timbres, as well as recreating Bartok's contrasting use of the piano; this is both occasionally percussive, and sometimes sustained (due to the use of the right pedal in Bartok's piano piece). This arrangement can also include a pianist playing the original piece on the piano, as the chamber ensemble doubles exaxctly. Note: this document is the full score only.Duration: 2 minutes.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk
