Bass 'bone players can count on one hand the good charts available for their instrument. Well, here is one of the best, arranged by Dave Wolpe. A medium-swing feel, this showcase will bring the best out in your bass trombone player with no improvisation, just written melody. There is some (written-out) jazz for 2nd trumpet in harmony mute, and the lead trumpet has a unison line to written high E. A nice sax soli is the icing on this cake. An outstanding feature chart. With the chicken-flavored title, this Kris Berg chart is just plain funky. The laid-back tempo is around 100 BPM, there is a suggested written tenor solo, and some slap bass licks on the hip bass part. This is an arrangement of the stage band version of the theme to the movie Naked Gun by Ira Newborn.  This was a large stage band with lots of brass, saxophones, bass, piano and drums.  But with this thick arrangement heavy on brass, the great walking bass line is lost.  The bassoon is perfect for a walking bass, so I featured this part all the way through, with the rest of the stage band reduced for the other four bassoons.  If you are a bassoon player that never got to play jazz, this is your opportunity.  Listen to the mp3 file.  I'll also include the link to the stage band version.
