Bassoon,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030736 Composed by Crystal Godfrey LaPoint. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and part. 43 pages. CGL MUSIC . music publishing #6295895. Published by CGL MUSIC . music publishing (A0.1030736). Composer notes  and links to performance videos: The 3 movements of this Sonata for Bassoon  & Piano (Marziale, Pastorale, and Il Ponte di Londra) engage  the listener with a balanced stylistic variety of tempi and character, while exploring  the bassoon’s elegantly lyrical and expressive personality (so rarely  celebrated by today’s composers). It offers bassoonists a fresh, appealing  addition to their solo repertoire - a new work with an authentic contemporary  voice that is eminently listenable and unpretentious. This Sonata for Bassoon & Piano  delights performers and audiences alike, with vignettes of energetic rhythmic  sophistication, soaring melodies, subtly poignant harmonies, and even a dash of  wit and whimsy. Hear the entire sonata performed at The 2021 Meg Quigley Vivaldi  Symposium by Dr. Sasha Gee Enegren and pianist, Sojung Park, on these 3 YouTube videos: Mvt. I at https://youtu.be/QGmuPl-9PCw, Mvt. Small Ensemble Bassoon Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596412 Composed by Daniel Hay. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5723755. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596412). Probably the first composition the composer, Daniel Hay, created is the piece The Hermit for Oboe and Strings. This bass clef arrangement is the melody from that piece. It was an experiment in modified 12-tone music structure. A friend from his years in Junior High School provided the melody concept. Many years later The Hermit was one of many compositions lost during Hurricane Katrina. The original score had been recovered because it had been sent to the composer's friend. In the piece, the hermit is represented by the solo instrument, and society is represented by the strings. This solo version can be played by most bass clef instruments although it was first expressed as an Oboe and the attached mp3 is voiced as Bassoon. The linked YouTube file is in Oboe voicing.

Individual part. 3 pages. Leyandder Trustworthy #6331243. Published by Leyandder Trustworthy (A0.964510). Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is a popular piece of choral music. It was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is the 10th movement of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. It was written during Bach's first year in Leipzig, Germany. Bach did not compose the melody. That was written by Johann Schop. Bach only harmonized and orchestrated Schop's melody. A transcription of Jesu was done by English pianist Myra Hess (1890-1965), and was published in 1926 for solo piano. In 1934, Hess' version was adapted for piano duet. British organist Peter Hurford made a transcription of Jesu for organ. Today, Bach's piece is often performed at weddings and funerals. Bach wrote the piece for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings and continuo. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is one of Bach's most enduring pieces of music. The present version is a facilitated reduction of the theme where it is soloed by Contrabass, along with piano accompaniment with chords that can be performed by the teacher and the ends. Ideal for young music students in the area, if you don't have a teacher to play along, search for item number: S0.1006121, here is an audio playback so you can play and study with ease and fluidity.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bassoon - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1138514 Composed by Christian Petzold, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Martin Luther. Arranged by Ander. Baroque,Easter,Renaissance,Sacred,Wedding. 38 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #738854. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1138514). This album contains 5 of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous and versatile pieces for bassoon trio, all very well suited for the beginners who want to get to know the baroque repertoire. They are also suitable for performances at events such as: weddings, Christian and church ceremonies, Easter, and academic recitals or concerts. They can be used in music institutions and by teachers as repertoire material and study methods, either for performance or instrumental technique. This collection includes a totally free bonus for you to enjoy: Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress is Our God, a Renaissance sacred song for choir, which has been adapted for this set. 1: Air on the G String - The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument. 2: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. Of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part. 3: Jesu, joy of man's desiring - This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works. 4: O Jesulein süss, o Jesulein mild - The Jesulein süß, the Jesulein mild is an original traditional German choral melody for voice and continuous bass arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1735. With lyrics by Valentin Thilo, O Jesulein süss is a sacred melody adapted and catalogued as BWV 493. The first translation is by Dirk van Hogendorp, who made it more of a song for the time of suffering. 5: Minuet in G major - This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach. Bonus: A Mighty Fortress is Our God, by Martin Luther - Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott is a hymn written by Martin Luther probably before 1529. The melody was also considered his work for a long time, but it was created at least with the collaboration of Johann Walter. The song is of great symbolic power for Protestantism, where it is also known as Deus noster refugium et virtus. Considered one of the most important hymns in the history of Christianity, it was considered by the Christian poet Johann Heirich Heine (1797-1856) to be the Marseillaise of the Reformation, in an allusion to the French national anthem.

Lyons Music Services #4793297. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767494). A brand newarrangement for bassoon quintet of this well-known tune by Praetorius. It begins with an introduction of long notes, whith the final voices coalescing into one phrase of the melody before the setting begins in earnest. The first section is repeated but in the third verse, a fanfare idea is introduced which then permeates the final verse, leading into a grand plagal cadence Amen. The First bassoon is in tenor clef most of the way through because of the range.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bassoon - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767558 Composed by Mike Lyons. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Concert,Contemporary. 34 pages. Lyons Music Services #5984929. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767558). An original horn quartet inspired by a conversation about writing for horns. There are three movements. After some time, I decided to see if this would work well on woodwinds and lo and behold, it sits really nicely on bassoon. The first movement is called Canon. It consists of a simple theme that is presented in imitation by each of the four 'voices' first at 2 bar intervals then, in inversion at four bar intervals and then in the original form at one bar intervals. There is a linking fanfare-like passage before the final statement of the original motif with fanfare-like adaptations. The second movement is called Lullaby. The elegant, drifting melody is passed around the four players with a largely chordal accompaniment pattern that needs to be played sotto voce at all times. The tempo is marked Largo, but it is still one-in-a-bar.The third movement is called Hullabaloo-haloo-haloo. While it is based on a 6/8 cantering rhythm, there is a lot of variation in both the accompaniment and the melody. Again, all the lines have a lot of interest, nobody has to play simple um-chucks, and there's even a solo for the Contra  at the end. This is a really enjoyable and exciting new addition to the Bassoon quartet repertoire.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258034 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 38 pages. Jmsgu3 #851272. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1258034). Instrumentation: English Horn Duo & Bassoon Duo.1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.
