Contrabassoon,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549233 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Easter,Standards,Wedding. Score and individual part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3468784. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549233). J. S. Bach BWV 508. This arrangement features a specially revised custom accompaniment part that avoids unwanted collisions with the contrabassoon and revoices chords to avoid awkward doublings and other voice-leading problems. It accentuates the solo part very nicely. Bist du bei mir Bach adapted this aria from a lost Stölzel opera called Diomedes. He changed the original orchestral instrumentation to soprano, strings, and continuo.  He also modified the voice-leading making it sound more like a Bach composition. The work appears as BWV 508 No. 25 in the Anna Magdalena Notebook No. 2.   Source Only a few remnants of the original opera have survived. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. Chances are good, though, that the tune was a favorite of everyone in Leipzig at the time.   Lyrics When thou art near, I go with joyTo death and to my rest.O how joyous would my end be,If your fair hands            Would close my faithful eyes. - Unknown Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy are the St. John Passion, and indeed the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival                Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

String Trio Cello,Double Bass,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266243 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Snakewood Editions. Baroque,Classical. 23 pages. Sneakwood Editions #858975. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266243). Preface and notes to the edition (English and Spanish) Score Parts (violin, violoncello, and basso) The sonata can be found in autograph version at the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino (Foá 29, pp.83r-86v).  It is the only known copy of this work, and was composed around 1720. It is copied in full score format. In the known catalog of Vivaldi’s works we find only another piece written for the same instrumentation (violin, violoncello, and basso): the trio sonata RV 820. The differences between the two sonatas are notable: the rv 820 sonata was written in Vivaldi’s younger years (ca. 1705) while the rv 83 sonata shows us a Vivaldi who has already forged his own fully recognizable style.Vivaldi used abbreviations and sometimes omitted certain information; a common practice found in many of his autographs. This edition clarifies all these annotations and, at the same time, gives the performer all the information contained in the manuscript.

Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266223). Vivaldi – Sinfonia (first Allegro) for strings and continuo from L’Olimpiade RV 725. Preface + Score + Parts (PDF) Preface and Notes Score Parts (Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Basso) Vivaldi – Sinfonia for strings and continuo from L’Olimpiade RV 725L´Olimpiade. Dramma per Musica, is an opera in three acts based on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio composed by Vivaldi and premiered at the Teatro Sant’Angelo on February 17, 1734, during the carnival. There is an earlier version based on the same libretto but written by Antonio Caldara in 1733. There are more than 50 later versions written by various authors, including Pergolesi (1735).Vivaldi’s opera begins with a Sinfonia for strings (Allegro) followed by two instrumental movements: Andante in cut time, and Allegro in 3/8 time. This edition includes just the first Allegro. There is an autograph copy in score format contained in the manuscript I-Tn, Foà 39, Bl. 1-140. The present edition is based on this manuscript. It is very interesting to mention that there is a violin concerto based on this same symphony (or perhaps the thematic transfer was from the concerto to the symphony). It is the violin concerto in C major rv 177.There are several sources for this concerto: Vivaldi’s autograph contained in the manuscript I-Tn, Foà 31, Bl. 14-25, in score format, and two sources in Dresden, the manuscript D-Dl, Mus. 2389-O-83 (score) and D-Dl, Mus. 2389-O-83a.The concerto includes some changes from the Sinfonia. Although these are different works, the connection between the two pieces seems obvious and the annotations that we find in the violin concerto could complement the information that appears in the Sinfonia. For this reason, it is interesting to mention these changes in this edition.

Small Ensemble Bassoon,Cello,Clarinet,Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811819 Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 - 1767). Arranged by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Graduation,Holiday,Wedding. Score and parts. 36 pages. Piper Publications #6536333. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811819). This Trio Sonata was published in Hamburg by Telemann in 1733 in the third volume of his Tafelmusik. The original was scored for flute, violin, cello and continuo. By 1733 the use of the continuo playing from a figured bass supported by a cello was falling out of use. In this piece, the use of the cello as a solo instrument effectively made the inclusion of the continuo redundant. In making this arrangement for flute, clarinet & bassoon or cello I have not included the continuo. Without the continuo, the Trio - still firmly entrenched in the Baroque style - closely resembles the three part Inventions of Telemann’s contemporary, J. S. Bach or the three part flute sonatas in Eb and G minor originally attributed to him but now considered to be the work of his son C.P.E. Bach. A set of 6 Quatuors ou Trios by Telemann clearly makes the continuo part optional. The arrangement is edited so that the style is true to the original. All edited phrasings (generally more suited to wind instruments) are shown using dashed lines. Telemann did not indicate any dynamics and none have been added. It is notable that Telemann developed his musical material throughout each movement and there are no repeated sections in this piece. There are four movements, Adagio, Allegro, Dolce and Allegro. The three parts are intended for players of equal accomplishment to delight their audiences.
