Flute and basso continuo - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q15874 Composed by Giovanni Benedetto Platti. This edition: Sheet music. Il Flauto traverso. Downloadable. Op. 3/3. Schott Music - Digital #Q15874. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q15874). Key: E minor.Giovanni Benedetto Platti was probably born in Venice about 1700; he came to WĆ¼rzburg in 1722 in the company of a group of Italian musicians. He was resident in WĆ¼rzburg as a member of the prince-bishop's court chapel until his death in 1763. As a versatile musician - as the period demanded - Platti wrote sacred compositions and chamber music works, mainly for harpsichord and violoncello. The series of six flute sonatas provide an exception to the norm - a fact which can also be deduced from the dedication of the pieces. It is addressed to a gentlemen in Cologne - a Signor Pietro Filippo di Krufft ... della Collegiata di Santo Cuniberto in Colonia. The original title of the complete opus, the third sonata of which is published in a new edition in this volume, is: Sei Sonate/a Flauto Traversiere Solo con Violoncello overo Cembalo/ ... /Composte dĆ /Giovanni Platti .../.../Opera Terza/Alle Spese di Giovanni Ulrico Haffner .../Nro. VI. The date of the publication must be 1742. Haffner began printing in this year, and Platti's Op. 1-4 are among the first works published by him. This new edition is based entirely on a copy in the Bavarian State Library, Munich. As always, it is only one of many possibilities.

Treble recorder and basso continuo (cello ad libitum) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q16247 Composed by Robert Valentine. This edition: Sheet music. Original Music for Recorder. Downloadable. Op. 3. Schott Music - Digital #Q16247. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q16247). Robert Valentine, born in Leicester around 1680, was one of the few English masters of Baroque music who achieved fame and enjoyed a high standing beyond the borders of his home country instead of within. He made his fortune in Italy where he seemed to have spent most of his lifetime. It is assumed that he returned to England in 1731. He died at an unknown place around 1735. Valentine was a talented composer. Apart from some concertos, he mainly wrote and published solo sonatas, trio sonatas and duets, works who clearly show his preference for the flute, he himself being a flutist.

Cello and basso continuo - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q25910 Composed by Stephen Paxton. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Op. 3/3. Schott Music - Digital #Q25910. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25910). Key: C major.Stephen Paxton was one of the most important English composers for the cello in the transitional period between the Baroque and Classical eras. As the cello repertoire does not feature many very early Classical works his Sonatas op. 3, written for amateur cellists and students, fill a significant gap in tuition repertoire. This three-movement Sonata op. 3/3 is very well suited to the cello and distinguished by its elegant and appealing melodies. The sonata can be played using the first four finger positions. As a cellist Paxton was very familiar with the technical capabilities of his instrument and knew how to make it sing with simple and effective figures. The first movement consists of two sections and has an expressive middle section in C minor. The slow movement uses an Irish folk song (ā€˜Gramachreeā€™), with two dance movements (Minuet 1 and 2) at the end. This new edition reproduces all the details of the first printed version, with just a few dynamic markings added in square brackets. The bass part has been written out in the style of an early Classical keyboard accompaniment so as to underline the galant rococo style of the piece.

Treble recorder and basso continuo; cello ad libitum - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q15848 Composed by Benedetto Marcello. This edition: Sheet music. Original Music for Recorder. Downloadable. Op. 2/7. Schott Music - Digital #Q15848. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q15848). Key: B flat major.Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739) comes from an old patrician family in Venice. He received his musical education first at home from his father who gave him his first violin lessons, and later from Francesco Gasparini who taught at the Ospedale della PietĆ  in Venice. The 'nobile Veneto dilettante di contrappunto', as he called himself to point out that he did not regard music as his main profession, wrote and published a vast number of vocal and instrumental works. His flute sonatas, twelve well elaborated compositions, which make rewarding musical and technical demands on lovers of the flauto dolce, were printed several times during their creator's lifetime. This new edition contains the text of the clearly improved edition by E. Roger instead of the Venetian first edition.
