3 Violine I - 3 Violine II - 2 Viola - 3 Violoncello/Kontrabass - 1 Basso continuo 2 cellos, string orchestra and basso continuo - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q19180 Urtext. Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. This edition: score. Concertino. Downloadable, Score. Schott Music - Digital #Q19180. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q19180). Key: G minor. The genre of the violoncello concerto was born in 17th-century Italy. Thanks to the Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741), there exists today not only a wealth of magnificent violin concertos but also quite a number of cello concertos to whose development he contributed considerably. More than two dozens of his concertos are dedicated to the violoncello, including the probably most famous double concerto: the 'Concerto for Two Violoncellos, String Orchestra and Basso continuo in G minor (RV 531)' written after 1770. The sonorous work with its playful outer movements and expressive largo is published in this critical new edition on the basis of the sources.

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,English Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549199 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 42 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458615. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549199). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: 4 oboes, 2 English horns, 2 bassoons, 1 contrabassoon (or 3 bassoons). Duration: 3:00, cut time 4/2 at half-note = 96, 71 ms. Score: 24 pg. parts: 2 pg. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony, and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this either at the beginning to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not difficult but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions of this product at www.jamesguthrie.com

2 Trompeten, Pauken, Streicher und Basso continuo 2 mixed choirs (SATB/SATB), soloists (SSATTB) and orchestra - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3274 Motet. Composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully. This edition: vocal/piano score. Downloadable, Piano reduction. Duration 40 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3274. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3274). Latin. This edition of a Te Deum by J.-B. Lully (1632-1687), composed in 1677, has been compiled from part-books belonging to the Euing Library in the University of Glasgow, and we wish to record our gratitude to that University, and to its librarian, Mr. R.O. MacKenna, for placing them at our disposal. The original score consists of a Petit Choeur for semi-chorus and soli, a Grand Choeur for full chorus, and an orchestra consisting of two trumpets, strings and basso continuo. Although there is no timpani part in the Glasgow part-books, it seems evident that there is need for timpani in performance. The editor has therefore ventured to include a part for them. The soloists required are SSAATTB. Some of their parts could well be sung by members of the Petit Choeur. This edition presents the text of the original sources except for the piano part which is partly a realization of the figured bass (marked continuo) and partly an adaption of the instrumental score (marked piano score).

Flute and basso continuo - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q23830 Per Flauto traverso e Basso. Composed by Pietro Antonio Locatelli. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Volume op. 2/7-12. Schott Music - Digital #Q23830. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q23830). These 12 Sonatas for transverse flute and bass were first published in Amsterdam in 1723 to a very positive reception. This can be demonstrated not only by the existence of numerous pirate copies, but also through instances such as the fact that part of the tenth Sonata has been preserved in the fine inlaid work on a table top made of imitation marble belonging to Prince Friedrich von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. They show elements of the emerging style galant and are distinguished by surprising turns of phrase and an extraordinary variety of expression. From a stylistic point of view this collection represents a valuable contribution to the genre of the solo sonata, which was at that time gaining pre-eminence over the trio sonata.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,English Horn,Flute,Oboe - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811665 Composed by Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828). Arranged by Pat Spence. Concert,Romantic Period,Wedding,World. 28 pages. Piper Publications #3435943. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811665). The original piano pieces have been arranged for wind quintet by Pat Spence. The popularity of the waltz in Vienna began during the 1820s when it was still  developing from a lively peasant dance popular amongst all classes into its later, more elegant phase. These dances were written after 1824 - probably for Schubert's own gatherings and published by Schubert for use in the large dance halls which were all the rage at the time.  The three dances would have been played as one continuous piece for dancing and the tempo would not alter.

Cello and basso continuo - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q25910 Composed by Stephen Paxton. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Op. 3/3. Schott Music - Digital #Q25910. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25910). Key: C major.Stephen Paxton was one of the most important English composers for the cello in the transitional period between the Baroque and Classical eras. As the cello repertoire does not feature many very early Classical works his Sonatas op. 3, written for amateur cellists and students, fill a significant gap in tuition repertoire. This three-movement Sonata op. 3/3 is very well suited to the cello and distinguished by its elegant and appealing melodies. The sonata can be played using the first four finger positions. As a cellist Paxton was very familiar with the technical capabilities of his instrument and knew how to make it sing with simple and effective figures. The first movement consists of two sections and has an expressive middle section in C minor. The slow movement uses an Irish folk song (‘Gramachree’), with two dance movements (Minuet 1 and 2) at the end. This new edition reproduces all the details of the first printed version, with just a few dynamic markings added in square brackets. The bass part has been written out in the style of an early Classical keyboard accompaniment so as to underline the galant rococo style of the piece.
