French composer Déodat de Séverac (1872 – 1921) studied in Paris but spent most of his life in the southern part of France. He is mostly known for his vocal and choral music, a proportion of which involves lyrics written in the historic languages of the Languedoc and Roussillon regions.
‘Ronde dans le Parc’ is one of a collection of short romantic pieces from the suite En Vacances (On Holiday), originally written for piano.
This arrangement for semi-flexible mixed woodwind quartet of 2 flutes, oboe and either B-flat clarinet or bassoon is ideal for intermediate-level players seeking something approachable but not over-familiar, to include in a recital programme or just as an addition to general repertoire.
