The song speaks of the journey, and also refers to the final journey to heaven. It is suitable for concerts, or for specific Windrush celebrations, or similar stories of people who have moved from one place to another.   It is simple and features a repeated bass line. The end of the piece gives opportunity for creativity, as the song fades out. It imitates a reggae style - with a repeated bass, and guitar type chords on beats 2 and 4.  Sounds of the sea, and counter melodies can be added.

Thumbs Up for Ice Cream! is a fun exercise for students to use to learn to differentiate between using the Treble Clef Thumb and the Bass Clef Thumb for Middle C.  The entire song is written on Middle C, using half notes and quarter notes.  When I teach this song, I make it into a game with my students.  On half notes they say ice cream to feel the 2 beats and on quarter notes they say scoop.  Once they master the song using the correct rhythm words and thumbs, they then have to challenge the members of their family to do it.  The kids love getting their family members and sometimes even their friends to do it.  This is a simple song, but packed full of fun!

The standard for an oboist is around grade 5. The pianist needs to be competent and around grade 7 or upwards in standard. This is also a good piece for college students to work on together as a performance piece.This piece is reflective, and would serve well for a performance at a school concert, in a church, or as a meditative piece.The composition benefits from practice individually, with a coming together of players before the performance date and will give the performers the experience of practicing individually as well as together.Breath control is key for the oboist as after the introduction the oboe plays right through without break. The piece will challenge and teach the need for breath control to the performer whether they are seasoned or a student.The pianist will experiences wide stretches and may have to work out which notes can be lost due to the stretch involved and the notation of the chords without affecting the overall largesse of piano sound.Dynamics are also important and both players will need to work on getting this right as there are waves of dynamics in very spaces during the piece. The arrangement on a key map tablature greatly simplifies it from the original notation with it's 4 sharps, B sharps, and double sharps. This piece is notated on a vertically oriented tablature called a key map. Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group. (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.) The key map staff is based on an octave group of the keyboard. This makes it trickier to read but much more fun to play. There are some large stretches and unusual hammer techniques. In the latter, the player creates a note from nothing by hammering a left-hand finger down on a string. I have employed a lot of off-beats, and the idea is to keep it licking along, almost like a piece of dance reggae-style music. This makes it wonderful for the listener and challenging for the player. This is offered in notation only, there is no tab.
