One movement from the Two Miniature Etudes for Kids. By combining both tonal and atonal qualities, It Rained! The Ants Ran... presented a variety of tone colors with different combination of chords and clusters to picture the anxiety and nervousness that happened where the ants need to move as soon as possible before they swamped by the rain. JunYi Chow Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, started learning the piano and music theory at the early age of 5, Chow gained his admittance into Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing, China) in year 2005 and received tutelage from WenChen Qin, Gang Chen and JianPing Tang. After graduation in 2011, currently Chow is taking master degree in Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University in United States under P.Q. Phan.

This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Both the melody and rhythm have been simplified from the original to make it easier to learn and perform.

Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided. To aid in the learning and teaching of this song or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included. Lyrics are also provided on the grand staff and handbells staff for sing along enjoyment.

Two copies of each score are provided. The scores are identical except one uses color coded noteheads and the other uses black and white noteheads.  The score with colored noteheads corresponds to the Boomwhackers® color scheme.  If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Using color coded notes helps beginning musicians learn to read standard sheet music notation. The score with black and white notes will print clearer if you do not have access to a color printer or have a group of players already familiar with reading music notation.

Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to distinguish (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. All flats are displayed as well (shown in the key of C); a helpful reminder for beginning musicians.

Other suggestions and uses: 
* have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers®     
* form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® (this would amplify the sound and allow more people to participate)
* use as part of the music education for children at school or home* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, home school groups

An excellent song from 1999, about resilience and self-respect, this 2 part choir arrangement is perfect for children’s choirs, assemblies and leaving celebrations. Part A is largely the melody, Part B has harmonies and some of the lead ad lib lines from the original song. The first half chorus is slower and repeats a line before going into the first ‘Bring it all back to you’, as a feature. The accompanying backing track, available from my website, has a hi-hat count in for that line.
