Here is the 1931 Duke Ellington classic It Don't Mean a Thing (if It Ain't Got that Swing) done as a drum feature, with a very modern harmonic approach and aggressive melodic ideas. This fast swinging chart starts with energetic solo drum time, then the entire flute ensemble trades eights (as a soli based on motives from the melody) with the drums for two choruses before a brief statement of the melody. This is followed by open solos over the original changes, and an open drum solo. The chart then transitions to a half-time swing free-for-all with fragments of the melody flying in all directions, capped of by a brief return of the opening section. Not for the faint of heart, and definitely not the same old jazz flute choir experience! Scored for piccolo, five C flutes, alto and bass flutes, piano, bass, and drums, with optional guitar.

Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.950926). What if Chopin had written a Christmas carol? It may have sounded something like this. There is a definite pastoral atmosphere to this arrangement, giving it the feeling of one of his Nocturnes. The gently flowing river of the left hand in the first section provides the support for the melody as it weaves its way in and out of the eighth notes of the right hand. The second verse takes a more chordal approach to the music with the tune being played in octaves while the off-beat rhythms provide a french horn-like accompaniment. Suddenly, there is a burst of energy as the chorus rings out in left hand octaves while the right hand gives the impression of a sudden gust of wind. There is a return to the chordal section and ultimately to the flowing river of the opening before a final statement of the melody (though somewhat altered) over a pedal point brings the prelude to a very quiet and peaceful close.
