This instrumental setting of Ben Folds's heartfelt ballad, The Luckiest will make an excellent addition to your quartet's gig book. If your client requests to hear this song as they walk down the aisle, as opposed to the usual Bridal Chorus, Wedding March, Canon in D, or *shudder* Don't Stop Believing, reward them for their excellent taste in contemporary love songs by serenading them with an arrangement that truly shines!

I've done my best to pay homage to Ben's original piano part by spreading some of the arpeggios between the violin & viola to create a sort of cascading pizzicato. The good news is you can perform this completely on your own as a quartet, no need to hire a pianist to accompany you. The less good news is you probably won't want to try sight-reading this unless you really trust that your internal rhythmic compasses are completely in sync, but with a very small amount of rehearsal a professional ensemble should have no problem tackling this chart, and I promise it will be really pretty! Your audiences will be fighting back tears almost as hard as they fought you on the price to book your ensemble for the gig ;-)

The Luckiest by Ben Folds was on his Rockin' the Suburbs album that released in 2001. This arrangement is for a more advanced group of students, either talented high school students or a university ensemble. The arrangement sticks fairly close to the original arrangement in the beginning with each part passing around various parts of the piano riff that begins the song. However, after the intro, the verses and choruses that follow change who is playing the melody as well as vary the accompinament. The piece includes a wide dynamic array and still keeps the emotional core of the original song in tact.

Simple and fun percussion ensemble arrangement of Ben Folds' The Luckiest for 2 Marimbas, 2 Vibraphones, Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Synthesizer, Bass Guitar, and 3 Auxiliary percussionists.  This arrangement can be adapted for more or less players: simply double up or take away marimba/vibe parts.  The aux parts could be consolidated into one.
