Thanks, John.  Big Spender is a song written by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields for the musical Sweet Charity, first performed in 1966.  A hit version of the song by Shirley Bassey reached No. 21 in the UK Singles Chart in December 1967.  It was featured in the 2004 film The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, and in the 2005 film Nynne. T he song has become one of Bassey's signature songs.

Mother Earth, the first, is a humorous attempt to answer the question of what our relationship is with nature. Next is What Do You See When You See The Mountains? which asks us to look beyond the thing we’re looking at and see what it really means. This is followed by Behold The Mighty River, an Ogden Nash-y poem that says the opposite. Finally, the cycle ends with If I Had Just One Complaint, a total rip-off of a Stephen Sondheim tune I’m sure. Range is not specified, but this was origianlly performed by mezzo-soprano.

Over the years, the words, originally bawdy, changed to fit the times and audiences, but always remained true to the hobo's dream of paradise.  This arrangement (without lyrics) is for an Intermediate String trio (two violins and cello).
