Once they had mounted, they were presented one final drink to fortify them for their long travels.The Parting Glass should be played with emotion.The musicians need to perform the composition with expression and rubato tempos. Tastefully stretching, slowing, and hurrying the tempo imparting flexibility and emotion to the performance. A Dominum factum est istud (This is the Lord's doing) has been wonderfully arranged for 8-part mixed Brass Ensemble by Kenneth Biggs.The work of almost 5 minutes in length is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and Mr. Biggs has supplied many substitute parts so the work may be performed by any number of Trumpets (in C or B-flat), Flugelhorn, Horns in F, Trombones (in bass clef and alto clef) and Tuba. There are 15 parts in all, and the ranges are quite moderate, so this is a perfect antiphonal work to introduce to less experienced performers. This arrangement works very well with mixing and matching of all the different instruments together.
