The Circus Cavalry follows the form of traditional marches, but ends with a descriptive coda in the original key. Listeners can imagine the opening parade of performers, clowns, and animals under the big top circus tent. After the main performance is finished, the coda portrays the clowns’ prolonged merriment, which results in a whip crack from the ringmaster to keep the show on schedule.
