SATB choir and organ - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8370-E Composed by Edward Elgar and Stanley M. Hoffman. Arranged by Stanley M. Hoffman. Ordination, Ordination/Installation, Romantic, Vocation/Ministry. Instrument part. 8 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8370-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8370-E). Latin. Ecclesiasticus 44:16-17.The words for Ecce sacerdos magnus by Edward Elgar (1857–1934) are from Ecclesiasticus 44:16–17. Also known as the Book of the All-Virtuous Wisdom (or simply the Book of Wisdom), Ecclesiasticus was written by the Jewish scribe Shimon ben Yeshua ben Eliezer ben Sira (also known as Jesus of Sirach) of Jerusalem. This volume of ethical teachings dates from around 200–175 BCE. Ecce sacerdos magnus is an antiphon and a responsory from the common of confessor bishops in the Liturgy of the Hours and in the Graduale Romanum, and the Epistle in their proper Mass. The responsory is for the festival of a confessor bishop, from the Liber Responsorialis juxta Ritum Monasticum, Solesmes, 1895. Since it is the second responsory of its nocturn, it does not have a half-doxology. The responsory ends with the repetition of the partial respond. Ecce sacerdos magnus has also been set to music by other composers including Anton Bruckner (1824–1896) and Jules Van Nuffel (1883–1953).

Small Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Saxophone,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938331 Composed by Dr Anthony Costandius. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 72 pages. Anthony Costandius Music #14899. Published by Anthony Costandius Music (A0.938331). A piece for solo Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra. The church was made a cathedral in 1564 when the city was granted its bishopric. The cathedral was built on the site of the Aljama Mosque in the first third of the 14th century. The name of this structure, El Salvador Cathedral, literally means the Cathedral of the Transfiguration. The cathedral has three portals: the Puerta de las Cardenas (Portal of the Chains, 14th century) is in Islamic style, the Puerta de Loreto (mid-15th century) is Gothic, and Puerta de la Anunciación (Portal of the Annunciation, built in 1588 by Juan Inglés), which has a Renaissance-style triumphal arch-shape. Part 1: Introitis. The saxophone mimics a chant based on the metre of the Introitis: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem (Bedew us, heavens, from above; ye clouds, rain down the Just One. Let the earth be opened up, and produce the Saviour. The intervals 1 (tonic), 5 (dominant), 6 (super-dominant) and 4 (subdominant), based on the year 1564 referred to in the section above, are used as the basis for the harmony progression for the string section. Part 2: Puerta de las Cardenas Acts 12:3–19 says that Peter was put into prison by King Herod, but the night before his trial an angel appeared to him, and told him to leave. Peter's chains fell off, and he followed the angel out of prison, thinking it was a vision (verse 9). The prison doors opened of their own accord, and the angel led Peter into the city. The visit from the angel, release from the chains and the prison, as well as the journey into the city is expressed against the background of the Islamic design of the portal, hence the referral to Arabian rhythms and scales in the music. Part 3: Puerta de Loreto The Puerta de Loreto is of gothic design. Loreto refers to the Italian city of Loreto in the province of Ancona. It is said that the holy house where the Mother Mary lived in Nazareth was translated miraculously to Loreto on December 19, 1294 - more than 700 years ago. The house did not go straight to Loreto, but in the year 1291 it was miraculously transported from Nazareth to the town of Tersatto in Dalmatia (Croatia). The local population, filled with astonishment, did not know how to explain its sudden appearance. Their Bishop, who was gravely ill, now appeared in their midst cured. He had prayed to the Virgin Mary that he might be strong enough to see the prodigy for himself, and the Mother of God appeared to him, surrounded by Angels, saying: My son, you have called for me, and here I am. I came to give you succor and to reveal to you the mystery [of the translation of the Holy House] you desire to know. The holy dwelling is the very house where I was born and raised. It was there that I received the good news brought by the Archangel Gabriel and I conceived the Divine Infant by the operation of the Holy Ghost. It was there that the Word was made flesh... For you to bear witness to all that I am telling you now, you will suddenly be cured and return to full health after the long illness you have borne, so that through you all will believe in this miracle. Part 4: Puerta de la Anunciación The Annunciation is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus, meaning Saviour. Part 5: Exit The work ends with a re-interpretation of the first section, the Introitis. This is to bind the work together, but also to again reflect on the text, as stated: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: a periatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem, and to comtemplate how that gives meaning to the being, essence and history of the Catedral de Orihuela.

Instrumental Duet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1139614 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Traditional,Wedding. 45 pages. Jmsgu3 #739883. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1139614). Score: 24 pages. Duration: ca. 21:10. Composed in Salzburg, 1783 I. Adagio - Allegro II. Andante cantabile III. Thema: Andante grazioso & 6 Variations - Allegro. The Duo K. 424 was written by Mozart in the summer of 1783 to complete Michael Haydn's set of six for Archbishop Colloredo. Michael Haydn was a close friend of Mozart and a composer who was admired by him. When Mozart heard of Michael Haydn's plight, he quickly wrote the two delinquent duos and delivered them to the Archbishop under Haydn's name. The set of six was presented as all Haydn's, and Colloredo could not detect in them Mozart's obvious workmanship. The piece was carefully designed to complete the set by choosing two keys not already used by Haydn. Among the devices Mozart uses to camouflage his authorship are the chirping grace notes and trills in the opening movement of K. 424. The Duo K. 424 is an example of Mozart's ability to write music in the style of his contemporaries while still maintaining his own unique voice.

String orchestra - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q15947 Victoria Maesta. Composed by George Muffat. This edition: score. Concertino. Downloadable, Score. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q15947. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q15947). Muffat, pupil of Lully and Corelli, composed his concerto „Victoria Maesta“ („Sad Victory“) in 1689 as organist and chamber musician in the court of the archbishop of Salzburg. The title refers to the taking of Belgrad during which the archbishop’s brother was killed in 1688; therefore the piece begins with a solemn funeral march in C minor, in elaborate and artistic contrapuntal technique in the sense of Corelli’s adagio type.

Cornet,Horn,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1347512 Composed by Philippe De Vitry. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Early Music,Historic,Medieval,Traditional. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #932321. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1347512). The motet Hugo, Hugo, princeps by Philippe de Vitry is significant for its musical innovation and potential political connotations. The motet's text is drawn from the opening lines in the two top voices, and it is suggested that it makes a strong political statement about the exile of French Christians, similar to the Jews from their homeland in the Old Testament and the corrupt leadership at the time. Additionally, the motet employs elements that de Vitry helped develop early in the 14th century, which would later characterize the Ars Nova period in music. Therefore, Hugo, Hugo, princeps is notable for its musical and potentially political significance. The term Hugo princeps in Philippe de Vitry's motet is believed to refer to a specific individual named Hugo, potentially with political connotations. The term princeps in the motet's title may imply a reference to a leader or prince. When combined with the context of the text, it likely carries a symbolic or allegorical meaning related to that period's political and social environment. The term Cum structura in Hugo princepsCum structura is a musical term that translates to with structure in English. In the context of Philippe de Vitry's motet, it likely denotes the structural complexity and organization of the musical composition. This term reflects the meticulous and innovative musical construction for which Vitry's works are known, particularly during the Ars Nova period in the 14th century.Philippe de Vitry, a French composer-poet, bishop, and music theorist, is known for his significant contributions to late medieval music. In the last decade of his life, from 1351 to 1361, he served as the Bishop of Meaux, near Paris. This appointment was the crowning event of his court and church career. As a bishop, Vitry's accomplishments were primarily in the musical and literary domains. He was an innovative and influential composer, widely acknowledged as a leading musician of his day, and his treatise Ars Nova became a rallying cry for all modern composers after about 1320. Additionally, he was known for his French poetry set to music, creating a new style of song, anticipating the work of Guillaume de Machaut. While his tenure as a bishop was relatively short, his lasting impact was in music and poetry.

Jmsgu3 #932258. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1347457). Philippe de Vitry's Garrit gallus/In nova fert is significant in its historical and musical importance. Composed around 1315, it is one of the earlier works of the Ars Nova, marking a stylistic change in medieval music. The motet is complex, using multiple texts sung simultaneously, isorhythm, and unusual harmonies, which required a new notational system of red ink coloration to indicate the duple. The motet's text is drawn from the opening lines in the two top voices, and it is suggested that it makes a statement about the exile of French Christians, similar to the Jews from their homeland in the Old Testament, and the corrupt leadership at the time. It may make a strong political statement about the corrupt leadership at the time, as it is part of the Roman de Fauvel. This animal fable satirizes the political situation in Paris.Philippe de Vitry, a French composer-poet, bishop, and music theorist, is known for his significant contributions to late medieval music.
