Performance time for the entire suite is 23 minutes but each piece could stand alone on a concert program. Riely's Dance was intended to present only African rhythms with no melody, but a rock n' roll middle somehow snuck in. Performance time is 5 minutes with a demand level of mostly intermediate with a few advanced sections. I decided to write lyrics for each movement, creating a version for voice (male and/or female) and classical guitar, then expanding it to this version for SATB Choir with classical guitar and percussion. The percussion parts are easy and meant to be performed by members of the choir. This download contains a recording of the accompaniment for this choir version. These two pieces; Vista Point and Squirrel Creek were inspired by hiking destinations in the mountains of Colorado, to two foundation ruins of lodges built in the 1920s, then later burned down. My thought was that there was surely a piano in these lodges and Scott Joplin pieces were likely among the repertoire of the pianists of that era. These two pieces are scored for piano solo with an optional narration part that tells the history of these lodges. Without narration the set performance time is 8 minutes. With the narration the pieces are played through once with the narration, then repeated without the narration, thus doubling the performance time. Performance demand is intermediate.
