Mostly, we tend to think of a barcarolle as a gentle compound time boat ride. This work by Mendelssohn, however, is more like a competition between gondoliers to see who can get through the Gran Canale the fastest!A difficult and challenging piece for brass because of the flow needed to keep the music light and delicate.
