Feierlicher Einzug by Richard Strauss for Brass Ensemble Arranged by Jari Villanueva Feierlicher Einzug (Solemn Processional) was written by Richard Strauss in 1909. The occasion was an investiture ceremony for the Knights of St. John, a fraternal organization with roots going back as far as the 11th Century. Today, offshoots of this venerable order still exist, doing charitable works–primarily in aiding the poor and the sick–around the world.  The original scoring of this piece included parts for 15 Eb Trumpets, 4 Eb Horns, 4 Trombones, 2 Tubas, and Timpani. Strauss later scored the work for full orchestra, including organ and optional chorus. An arrangement by Max Reger (1873-1916) for organ, 2 trombones, and timpani is still frequently performed today.  This arrangement was originally done for the US Air Force Band and has been performed by the New England Conservatory Brass and Texas Christian University Wind Symphony.

Arranged for Brass Quartet, Jesus Christ Is Risen Today was first written in Latin titled Surrexit Christus hodie, as a Bohemian hymn in the 14th century by an unknown author on manuscripts written in Munich and Breslau. In Latin, it had eleven verses. It was first translated into English in 1708 by John Baptist Walsh to be included in his Lyra Davidica (Collection of Divine Songs and Hymns). The verses of the hymn were revised in 1749 by John Arnold. Initially the hymn only had three verses translated with just the first verse being a direct translation; in 1740 Charles Wesley (one of the founders of Methodism) added a fourth verse to the hymn as an alternative, which was later adopted into the hymn as part of it. The hymn is also noted for having Alleluia as a refrain after every line.The hymn is set to a piece of music entitled Easter Hymn which was composed in the Lyra Davidica for Jesus Christ Is Risen Today. There was a later version of Easter Hymn composed by William Henry Monk which is also used for Jesus Christ Is Risen Today. Some denominations of Christianity often just use one while some use both. The hymn is sometimes confused with Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, which was written by Wesley. Aliento Fanfare was composed in 2020 in tribute to the hospital workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The word Aliento means breath in Spanish. In many cities and towns around the world at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, hospital workers were cheered every night at 7:00 PM by the people who were locked down in quarantine. At this time especially, hospital workers were called on to help everybody through the pandemic. Aliento Fanfare was premiered by the C.I.M. La Armonica of Buñol, Spain on November 21, 2020 conducted by Jose Tello Espert. It was later arranged for orchestra brass and percussion and a virtual performance was placed on YouTube by players of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Both versions are included in this publication and they may be used interchangeably if desired, to expand the orchestral brass by adding a 4th trumpet and adding a vibraphone.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and performer. His compositions have been performed more than one thousand times in twenty-six countries. He has written over one-hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists.  He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the TUBA International Etude Composition Competition in 1991 for Twenty Characteristic Etudes to Tuba.

It employs two quintet groupings to create straight-ahead, ensemble energy. The two quintets trade off melodic and rhythmic figures throughout the opening.
