Versatile Brass - Big Band Collection for Brass Band

I did this arrangement for a wonderful brass group in the south of England called 'Brass Fusion'. They very kindly invited Versatile Brass to spend a weekend with them in Sussex.

Versatile Brass recorded it as a 'bonus' track on our album 'Legacy' complete with the 'crackle' effect of an old gramophone record. 

This is the brass band arrangement as played by the wonderful Boobs and Brass. The 10 piece version is also available on Sheet Music Plus

This magnificent transcription of Gabrieli's 12 part vocal work by Dr. David Mathie is 4 minutes in length. As with many of Gabrieli's works, the Gloria is antiphonal and written for a 3 choir ensemble with 4 parts in each choir.  The parts are for 6 Trumpets in Bb and 6 Trombones, plus 6 alternate substitute Horn parts.  The work is of intermediate difficulty and is very sonorous and lyrical sounding.  A wonderful addition to a Brass ensemble concert or church service.

This march, in C minor, was originally written for a quartet of flatt trumpets, which could play notes outside of the harmonic series and thus in a minor key. Here it has been adapted for a modern brass ensemble, with marching drum. Following the march is the canzona, also in C minor. A beautiful and sombre ensemble work, good for ceremonies and concert performance. .

A New Orleans brass band funk orientated original composition for the standard British brass band set up. It has solo and whole band tutti sections and requires a good to very good ensemble to perform it. I wrote this as a piece to open the first or second half of a traditional concert. The ending itself requires players to move to the front of the stage for visual effects. The overall style needs a conductor and band to feel the funky groove and embrace the feel as well as the written notation.

The fourth movement from the cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, also known as Sleepers, Wake! has been arranged for Brass Quartet. The horn part takes the tenor voice solo where appropriate, singing over the rest of the ensemble.   All players have occasional rest-bites and plenty of opportunity to shine, with the general range and technical demands for a convincing performance aimed at intermediate to advanced players (ABRSM grade 5 and upwards). This popular baroque classic would be a perfect addition to concerts, recitals and wedding programmes, for both audiences and performers alike.

The PDF is 23 pages in length (portrait A4) and includes a full score and parts for flexible brass quartet (2 Cornets/Trumpets, Tenor Horn/F Horn/Baritone/Trombone and Euphonium/Bass Trombone).
