Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810723 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century. Score and parts. 91 pages. Gordon Cherry #1955001. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810723). Mercury, The Winged Messenger, written in 1916 is the 3rd movement of Gustav Holst's iconic 7-movement suite. It is light, flitting and scherzando in style.  Mr. Sauer has used a very ingenious scoring technique for the brass to keep the music flowing for the very fast, long phrases used by the composer. • 4 minutes in length for advanced performers. Instrumentation is for: 4 Trumpets in C (Trumpet 1 includes Piccolo in B-flat) 4 Horns 3 Trombones Euphonium (Tenor Tuba), 2 Tubas  Timpani and Glockenspiel Mr. Sauer has also transcribed other selections (also available on this site) from Holst's Planets Suite including: Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Uranus.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792751 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Damiano Drei. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 35 pages. Gordon Cherry #6222417. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792751). Giovanni Gabrieli's Canzon per sonar septimi toni à 8 (Ch. 171) is an instrumental work in 8 parts (2 choirs antiphonal) composed in 1597 as part of a collection of 45 motets titled Sacrae Symphoniae. These works were performed in St. Marks Basilica after Gabrieli returned to Venice to become the principal organist there and propelled him to become recognized as one of Europe's leading composers. The instrumental works of the Sacrae Symphoniae have been cherished by brass performers for many years now. This new arrangement by Damiano Drei has been carefully edited for modern instruments with minimal changes and includes substitute parts to allow the performance of this glorious work by 8 or more advanced performers.Instrumentation is for: 4 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn in F, 2 Trombones and Tuba. Alternate parts are written for Horns in F and Trombone).

Brass Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.883776 Composed by Phil Lawrence. 20th Century,Children,Instructional,Jazz. Score and parts. 36 pages. Phillip Lawrence #3820049. Published by Phillip Lawrence (A0.883776). Swing? A recent subject to hit the brass band discussion pages, how to and how to notate. I think to teach correctly would be the way. Many jazz charts for brass band have been notated in a variety of ways, a lot in the old dotted quaver/semiquaver fashion which either including a triplet bracket or not is confusing, misleading and plainly inaccurate. So, to a young band of the 9/14 years, my approach is to give them just 2 notes to start, the longer and the shorter i.e Doo-da! And build ever so slightly from there also giving them a chance to chant the title The Brass Band Boo-gie. So in a simple non-running around many notes, we have very few, but put together with other swing rhythms in the piece we get a swung piece, also inc, some quavers (8th’s) not to swing and play straight a reminder to change! Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.964565 Composed by Samuel Scheidt. Arranged by Betsy Bright. Baroque,Concert. Score and parts. 16 pages. Bright Music Company #6247001. Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964565). A long time staple of brass repertoire, Samuel Scheidt’s Galliard Battaglia has been brought to life in an assortment of ways by different arrangers over the years. This arrangement is for double brass choir, with 8 voices.  All of the excitement is there, but it doesn’t wear down the trumpets at the end as much as many other arrangements, and it gives a chance for the low brass to shine a bit more. This is a great piece to add on to any brass choir program. It provides a great audio/visual experience for the audience, the parts are fun to play, and no one gets exhausted in the process. Scheidt for the triple-win!Instrumentation:2 Trumpets in Bb2 Horns in F2 TrombonesBass tromboneTuba

Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.768515 Composed by Victor Ewald. Arranged by Edited by Roar Kvam. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 172 pages. KVAMusic Edition #5730965. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768515). Victor Ewald 27 November 1860 - 16 April 1935 Ewald was a Russian composer of music, mainly for conical brass instruments. He was born in Saint Petersburg and died in Leningrad. He also collected and published Russian folk songs. Ewald’s professional life, like that of many of his musical contemporaries, was in an entirely different field; that of a civil engineer, in which he excelled, being appointed in 1900 as professor and manager of the Faculty of Construction Materials at the Institute of Civil Engineers. Brass players however are indebted to him for something very different – a series of quintets which have become a staple of the repertoire and which represent almost the only, and certainly the most extended examples of original literature in the Romantic style. Ewald’s formal musical training began in 1872 when he enrolled at the St Petersburg Conservatory at the age of twelve. Founded in 1861 by Anton Rubenstein, this institution was the first of its kind in Russia and it was here that Ewald received lessons in cornet, piano, horn, cello, harmony and composition. As an adult he worked alongside fellow musical nationalists known collectively as the Mighty Handful-Borodin, Mily Balakirev, CeÌsar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and the most famous of all, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. All of these men had day jobs in non-musical fields. Ewald’s contributions as a composer reflected an abiding love for brass instruments for which he wrote his quintets scored originally for two cornets, alto horn, baritone horn and tuba. I've edited these four quartets using Ewald's original instrumentation, but there are also separate substitute parts for the modern brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn in F, trombone and tuba).
