The words for this song were written as a poem by my late mother-in-law Olivia Morgan (94) about the love of her adopted country Australia. She originally came from her ancestral home in England when she was 14. She spent her early years in Australia on a cattle station. Many years later she wrote a poem. Olivia asked me to set her poem to music, which I did in 1990 in the style of an anthem. It has since been performed by the local symphony orchestra and full choir. This setting is for SATB Choir and Orchestra with or without piano accompaniment. The Gift (Lullaby for Jonathan) is a beautiful tune written by my brother Martin for my son Jonathan when he was a baby, originally as a piano solo… I’ve just finished scoring it for concert band and orchestra with his permission - almost 25 years later! This is an original composition for the Orchestra dedicated to my oldest daughter Christine - Chrissy. It begins with a gentle Cor Anglais Solo with decorated parts for Piccolo and Flute (Song Birds) and gradually builds and then dies away in the last bars. This is an original composition for the Orchestra. The original tune was written in 2004 and then expanded and arranged for the full orchestra in 2022. It has a light-hearted feel with a light rock beat. There is also a version for Concert Band. There are only 3 chords used in this composition – Eb, Bb, and Bb maj7. The bassline is also fairly repetitive and sustained throughout. There is also a basic chorded optional Piano accompaniment part and Violin 3 (sub-Viola) included. This is the second piece I have composed for my sister Ann reflecting on a quiet time in the morning or evening and her caring nature. Noël Nouvelet is a traditional French Christmas and New Year's carol. The song was long ago translated into English as Sing We Now of Christmas. This traditional French carol dates from the late 15th century and the early 16th century. The word nouvelet has the same root as Noël, both stemming from the word for news and newness… This is an arrangement for a Flexible Clarinet Sextet or Choir. The Joy of Life – Orchestra version 2 This is an original composition written in 2004 and has now been arranged and expanded for the Orchestra. It has an optimistic feel and has a few separate tunes interweaving starting very simply with a small woodwind group and expanding to climax for the full orchestra. It has a repeating descending bass line and a repeating four-bar harmony structure which gives it a feeling of moving forward. An optional piano part is included but not shown in the score. This catchy little calypso tune was originally written to feature two clarinets with piano accompaniment but has been expanded here to a Clarinet Choir or Sextet arrangement.
