Choral work by Antonio Lotti (c.1667-1740); transcribed for band by Brian Harris

The Kyrie is part of the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Mass. This musical setting of the Kyrie was written for choir by Italian composer Antonio Lotti, who spent his entire career at the famous St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.

The adaptation of choir literature for use by wind players provides an ideal tool for teaching basic musicianship such as intonation, balance, and blend as well as the advanced techniques of phrasing, nuance of line, and accuracy of ensemble articulation. Because the work consists of only 4 voices, players can more readily hear and address individual, section, and ensemble problems.

The score and each part is notated with the specific voice assignment (S = soprano, A = alto, T = tenor, B = bass). This allows the conductor to rehearse like groups by simply asking for all players with the alto line and so forth. Knowing that another instrument is playing the exact same line can encourage them to listen across the band in order to match style/balance with the other players.

A classic for the wind band, SEA SONGS is a delightful piece to play. But due to early 20th century scoring practices, the Bass Clarinet part is written very high in range – almost like a 4th Clarinet part. And most of what it plays is doubled in other voices (saxes, euphonium, etc.). This means today's band loses the added sonority of the low register of the Bass Clarinet. 

This special part puts the Bass Clarinet back in the low register and doubles the Tuba line. Much more enjoyable for your Bass Clarinetist! Also included is a second specially-constructed part which includes most of the Bassoon 2 line interwoven with the Tuba line. Choose which one works best for your player/band. 

NOTE: this Digital Download is assembled with two complete parts for Bass Clarinet. When you download/print the full document (4 pages, total), the first page to print will be marked SAMPLE, the second page will be the Bass Clarinet strictly doubling the Tuba line, and the last two pages will be the Bass Clarinet doubling the Bassoon 2 and Tuba line. Symphony No. 25 in G minor - transposed parts for Horn in F (Hn. 1, 2, 3, 4)

These parts may be used with Barenreiter and other original editions.

These transposed parts have prevalent measure numbers, but the rehearsal letters (taken from the Barenreiter Urtext) might be in different locations in other editions. These are not edited parts, but are simply transposed into F from the publisher's original printing.

Recently performed in concert, the parts have been highly proofed and edited for clarity and accuracy.

Comment: Having both paired parts on a single staff (1st/2nd Horn; 3rd/4th Horn) can help with balance issues by allowing certain notes to be played by only one player; this is especially true for certain high notes in the 1st/2nd parts.

Written around 1820 by Italian composer Saverio Raffaele Mercadante, this engraving of his CONCERTO FOR HORN is in the original key and has been meticulously edited.

Consisting of two sections, the beautiful, plaintive opening slow section (Larghetto alla Siciliano) is about 2.5 minutes in length and works well as a stand-alone feature to showcase the sonority of the horn. It would be perfect for a talented high school player. The concluding fast section (Allegretto brillante) is bubbly, delightful, and quite technically challenging in a few spots.

The concert band / wind ensemble accompaniment (available separately) is scored to prevent overpowering the soloist and will work with smaller groups for senior recitals, etc.

With its distinctive Russian flavor, MARCH OF THE CZAR'S BRIGADE depicts a pass and review of military troops on a snowy winter's day. Starting quietly, the sound slowly grows to a strong B section, then marches away into the distance. This G-minor work is ideal for any concert or festival.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Medium Easy / Grade 2 / suitable for middle school or small high school bands

FEATURES:
- All winds (including tuba!) have melody at least once.
- Simple trombone parts (generously cross-cued in Horn, Euphonium)
- 2nd Clarinet remains below break.

CHALLENGES:
- Use of dotted-eighth/sixteenth rhythm in melody.
- Use of low register for clarinets. (low E, F, G#)
- Tuba solo (cued in other parts)
- Muted Trumpet 1 solo (unison line with other instruments)
- Dynamics; articulations; a few 16th-notes in all parts.

RANGES:
- All parts are well within 2nd-year ranges: Flute to E-flat above staff (only once); 1st Clarinet to C above staff; 2nd Clarinet remains below break; Trumpets to 3rd space C (1st Trumpet to E, once); Trombone to C above staff; Tuba to C on staff, down to D just below staff.

MINIMUM INSTRUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:
Flute, 2 Clarinets, Alto or Tenor Sax or Horn, 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombone, Bass Line, Percussion.

PERCUSSION: Parts for 5 players:
Percussionist 1 = Snare Drum
Percussionist 2 = Bass Drum
Percussionist 3 = Crash Cymbals, Sleigh Bells
Percussionist 4 = Bells, Chimes
