Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1487841). The Kaiser Walzer (Emperor Waltz) is one of most famous pieces of this genre and perhaps the one with the most pronounced symphonic  character. It was written for the opening of the Berlin concert hall Königsbau on 19 October 1889. The first performance in Vienna took place on  11 November 1889 by his competitor Carl Michael Ziehrer, who made his own instrumentation along a piano edition. Strauss disliked that very much. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra. The  introduction states an aria from Rossini's opera Mosè in Egitto, and the theme originates from the melodrama La donna del Lago. The  arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by  Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2017 at the  Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and was broadcasted live by Austrian television. However, instead of 32 bars, it has 64, plus an 8-bar tag. The tag is often dropped when the song is performed. The tune, like many of Porter's, shifts between a major and minor feeling. The A section is in the key of B-flat minor before modulating to B-flat major and back. When the song came out in 1930, a newspaper labelled it as 'in bad taste'; radio stations avoided broadcasting it. Today it is a jazz standard.

His first career steps contained several positions as military band conductor in the Austrian-Hungarian army,   so he also led the band of the infantry regiment no. 25 located in Lucenec in today's Slovakia, where this march arose.   The subtitle Humorous March was possibly chosen to indicate, that it was not intended to be a military march. The arrangement  is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra.
