Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8084-E Composed by James McCullough. Advanced/Collegiate. African American Heritage. Octavo. 8 pages. Duration 3 minutes, 9 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8084-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8084-E). English. Psalms 35.Plead My Cause, O Lord was composed for my brother, Robert Louis McCullough, in 1971. It received its first performance by the Old South Church Choir, Copley Square, in Boston, during the Sunday Morning Service of March 7, 1972. Mr. Alfred Nash Patterson was the conductor, and the composer was the tenor soloist. Many other performances followed. A memorable one was given by The Marsh Chapel Choir of Boston University on Sunday, March 21, 1993. Julian James Wachner was the conductor and Frank Martinez was the tenor soloist. This piece uses the sprechstimme (or sprechgesang) technique appearing within an unaccompanied sacred work. This technique employs speech and singing without any specific pitch intonation. The first example of this technique appears in Pierrot Lunaire, the groundbreaking 1912 composition by Arnold Schoenberg (1874–1951). -James McCulloughDuration: 3:09.

Bassoon,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416716 Composed by Duncan Druce, Geoffrey Poole, James Langley, and Margaret Lucy Wilkins. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score and part. 44 pages. Forsyth Brothers Ltd #998379. Published by Forsyth Brothers Ltd (A0.1416716). Four pieces for bassoon by well-respected British composers (ed. John Turner), commissioned to broaden the contemporary repertoire for the instrument. Includes three pieces with piano accompaniment, two for solo bassoon and one for bassoon trio. Cavatina by James Langley Circuit by Margaret Lucy Wilkins Revue by Geoffrey Poole Two Night-Pieces by Duncan Druce (I. bassoon solo and II. bassoon trio) Forsyth's Modern Wind Music series contains exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. This volume for Bassoon features Duncan Druce's two atmospheric Night-Pieces, for solo bassoon and a trio of bassoons respectively, works which are inspired by quotations from Thomas Campion and Shakespeare's Macbeth. Geoffrey Poole's colourful Revue offers a nice contrast with its witty references to the Offenbach Can-Can, while further light relief is present in Margaret Lucy Wikins' energetic and athletic Circuit. Another mood is conjured in the remaining piece, James Langley's gentle and haunting Cavatina.

Small Ensemble Cello,Piano,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.905711 Composed by James Weldon Johnson, John Rosmond Johnson. Arranged by Brandon Haynes. Concert,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 10 pages. Brandon Haynes #4603703. Published by Brandon Haynes (A0.905711). Lift Every Voice and Sing was initially written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson in 1900 and set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson in 1905 and has become known a national anthem for African-Americans. The initial hymn tune is intense with grandeur and immense hope. With this arrangement; I have set the music more somberly to reflect the seriousness of the text that speaks of the bitterness and anguish of America’s dark racial past that is still rampant today. This allows the listener to reflect on the text thoughtfully. Remarkably, I have heard this hymn many times throughout my lifetime both in predominantly Caucasian denominations and predominantly African-African American denominations and the differences in interpretation are fascinating. White congregations tend to sing this hymn spritely with great pomp and circumstance while the Black congregations tend to sing it more labored and meditative as if it were a dirge. I believe both interpretations are valid, but interesting given its context. This arrangement is written for medium-high voice, cello obbligato and piano accompaniment.

Piano,Trombone - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548699 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411147. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548699). A Trombone Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Trombone part: 1 pg. Piano reads from the score. Schubert seems to have composed this piece as a song-setting. This is because he wanted to portray a poignant emotional event from a poem. The poem was Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake. The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular.

It was allegedly written for a 5-shilling bet in Stalybridge on January 30, 1912 and performed the next night at the local music hall. Now commonly called It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, the original printed music calls it It’s a Long, Long Way to Tipperary. It became popular among soldiers in the First World War and is remembered as a song of World War I. Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile is the full name of the World War I marching song, published in 1915 in London. It was written by Welsh songwriters, George Henry Powell under the pseudonym of George Asaf, and set to music by his brother Felix Powell. It was featured in the American show Her Soldier Boy, which opened in December 1916. This skillful arrangement by Jari Villanueva captures the flavor of the original tunes and would be a great selection commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I. The arrangement includes the verses of the tunes and the British bugle call Fall In. This clever arrangement culminates in a rousing section that superimposes both tunes. Included is a Full Score and parts for Brass Ensemble.
