What is Wisdom?In Proverbs 8:5-11 she says,Learn prudence, acquire intelligence, …take my instruction instead of silver,and knowledge rather than choice gold,for Wisdom is better than jewels. This suite of three songs is appropriate for use in a Christian or Jewish religious service or a secular concert. It includes a short audience participation possibility at the end of the last song. All are written for flute, piano, ethnic drum, SATB plus a high soprano part that can be a soloist. The drum part is written out, but could be improvised. The first song, Hear My Call, is short (1:49) and could be used as a call to worship in a religious service. The second song, God Created Me, (4:36) is an anthem of praise using the wonderful words of the creation of Wisdom in Proverbs 8:22-36 with a descant of the creation story in the book of Ben Sira 24:3, found in the Apocrypha. The tenors and basses sing the comparison of Wisdom with the trees of Israel, also found in Ben Sira, all in praise of Wisdom. The third song, Choose Life, (1:16) includes a chant that can be sung by the congregation or audience along with the choir. This could be used as the final hymn in a religious service. All three songs can be used separately or together. At the end of the score you will find a copy of the congregational chant which can be copied and placed in an Order of Service or Program. The recording is electronically produced and therefore has choral oohs without words. All three songs are on the recording, and at the end there is a flute rendering of the chant.. This is not intended to stand alone, but to be sung, as directed, with the last part of the choir song, Choose Life.

Grover Washington, Jr., recorded this composition on his Winelight album with a stellar rhythm section of Richard Tee, Rhodes piano; Eric Gale, guitar; Marcus Miller, bass; Steve Gadd, drums; and Ralph MacDonald, percussion. Despite the subtitle, this piece is not a samba, but rather a soulful solo vehicle for Grover and members of the rhythm section.This arrangement is written flexibly so that it could be performed by a full big band, by solo alto sax with rhythm section, or by big band with a featured alto soloist. The arrangement can be opened up for multiple soloists. Young soloists can improvise very effectively using a g minor blues scale, although the piece is not a blues. More advanced players can use the provided sheets with the chord changes transposed for each instrument.The MIDI-rendered recording provides an adequate representation of this arrangement, but check out Groverâ??s recording on the streaming platform of your choice for an outstanding model to emulate.

DO THAT TO ME ONE MORE TIME - FLUTE and GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This fantastic melody deserves more fame than it gets, though when it first came out it was Captain and Tennille’s second No 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.My arrangement captures the three verses that feature in this piece, and also the instrumental break (originally on the lyricon), which has most of the ornamentation, except for the big bends that the lyricon can do electronically. This arrangement is set in the same keys as the original, and modulates from C to G (for the instrumental) and then to D.The accompaniment fits nicely on guitar, and it’s ideal for an intermediate duo. The guitar seldom comes out of first position and uses familiar chord shapes. The flute part has a top G, but it can easily be replaced by another top E if the G is not rock solid. By the same token, some of the repeated notes can be replaced by a sustained note if you feel that makes for a more relaxed articulation.This is one of those pieces that a concert audience will be humming all the way home...I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

The Finnish NA arranged for Brass Quintet.There also versions for String & full Orchestra in my two stores.The anthem lyrics were taken from a poem by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, a Swedish-speaking poet, called “Vårt land� (Our Land). The song was first sung in 1848 by a student group and became popular in Scandinavia and many of his patriotic poems, including Vårt land were used by promoters of Finnish nationalism. The poem was translated into Finnish some decades later, after Vårt land was well established as a national song, by Paavo Eemil Kajander and became the anthem before 1917 independence. Estonia‘s anthem, adopted 20 years later, has the same melody, however the last few lines do not repeat as they do normally in the Finnish anthem. Interestingly, the anthem has never been officially legislated as the Finnish anthem, but rather is traditionally used as the anthem. As such, there is no standard way to perform the 11-verse anthem, but usually the first and the last verses (as presented here) are sung. There sometimes arises a debate in Finland to change the anthem to Jean Sibelius’ song “Finlandia� (the melody was used in Biafra), a song recognized internationally as a symbol of Finland, but the general opinion seems to be for now to keep the current anthem. The song appeared in the movie This Property is Condemned in 1966, starring Robert Redford and Natalie Wood. The renowned song writing team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans created a memorable song that has been performed by Astrud Gilberto, Ed Ames, Mary Lou Collins and the Lawrence Welk Orchestra. This arrangement is perfect for gigging quartets playing receptions, parties and wedding. The arrangement provides challenges but is not difficult to learn. Audiences will love it!
