The lyrics are from a traditional hymn but I've written new music for it in a minor key to match the sombre mood. This recording is a perfect accompaniment track for either a beautiful solo during a church service or for a congregation to sing along with, led by a singer who has heard the recording and knows the song. The mp3 has no lead singer but harmonies and a few descants in the background, particularly in the end, as they are really part of the music and will help to make it a really moving, powerful song at any church service. This rare hymn is wonderful for Ash Wednesday or any time during the Lenten Season or even Good Friday, contemplating Christ's betrayal by Peter and all who give in to sin. Although it is very solemn and touches on many points about repentance and Christ's suffering, it ends on an uplifting note and leads us on to stronger faith in Him.This song has a vocal range of Bb3-C5 and there is also sheet music in several keys available by searching Stacey Plays Hymns on this site. This is the second of eight waltzes I composed between September 2020 and April 2024. This was the second waltz I wrote, and the second during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a gentle piece with a sense of a dream-like dance. The form is A-B-A'-A-Coda. It starts off in D and centers around the key of D, until the end, when the Coda transports the listener to an ending in G. Think of it like the dancers in the dream disappearing from sight.Regarding articulation: I use tenuto and accent + tenuto marks frequently in my compositions. I tend to use them mostly as indications for the melody and/or notes that should be emphasized or brought out. I never intend the accent + tenuto to be harsh, but it should be stronger than the tenuto alone.I intend to have a collection of all eight waltzes available for sale in addition to individual pieces. The available recording on Arrange Me and Sheet Music Plus is an export from Finale – not a live performance. Note, Finale did not keep the tempo consistent throughout. Published by Middle Branch Music (A0.1276549). Several years ago I heard some of the piano Etudes of Gyorgy Ligeti. I was very impressed with how Ligeti constructed such rich music on such a small scale and thought it would be a fun challenge for me to attempt something similar. Writing for piano has always been a challenge for me, both because of the instrument itself and because of the previous literature, which has seemed rather daunting. However, by trying to concentrate solely on the character and needs of each movement I had an easier time than I had feared and really enjoyed the process. The results bear no outward resemblance to the Ligeti works, at least not to me, but the work has its own integrity and character. By providing as “bookends� a Prologue and Epilogue that used the same material I tried to give some structure to the work as a whole. That and the way I linked the tonal centers of the successive movements provide what unity there is. For me, however, the title is accurate and I view these little pieces as miniatures, ones that gave me a lot of pleasure to write and will I hope give listeners pleasure as well.
