End Of The LineAlbum & Songbook review by:  Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):Isadar’s fourth solo piano album is a blend of smooth jazz and new age stylings, showing both his impressive technique and sensitivity to melody. Several of the eight selections are free-form and improvisational, revealing some of Liz Story’s influence on his music. Some of Isadar’s earlier recordings have very dark, moody sections, but this one stays fairly upbeat and optimistic without being ear candy. The music is complex enough to sink your teeth into, and yet is accessible enough to enjoy as a backdrop to a quiet dinner or an evening with a good book. Joyful Running begins the journey with an exuberant and uplifting piece that reminds me a little of some of Spencer Brewer’s bouncier compositions. Fountain of Life is a beautiful piece with a water-like flow that never stops in its 10 1/2 minutes. I listened to this CD several times without realizing that this song was that long. It flows and meanders so effortlessly that it seemed no longer than the other seven selections, most of which are between four and five minutes in length. Unstructured and free, this is one of my favorite tracks. I also really like the title track, which is even more abstract and unstructured. The tone is of searching and moving forward. End of the Line is my favorite on this album. Very introspective and contemplative, this seems to be a very personal piece. It is the most somber track, but one still senses hope despite the ending of something dear and important. Or maybe it’s simply the end of the journey and the dread of returning to real life - I feel this way on the last day of my vacations! It is a wonderful and moving closing to an excellent album.The companion songbook is expertly transcribed and engraved by David Shenton of New York Music Publishing. The layout of the music is clear and uncluttered, and the notation includes pedal markings and dynamics that allow the pianist to express the music as closely as possible to how Isadar played it on the recording.  A few of the pieces are quite long and require a more advanced pianist who is able to express the nuances that keep the recording so interesting, but several of the pieces are well within the capabilities of upper intermediate players.  Some of the rhythms are a little bit tricky, but the majority of the left hand parts are running eighth notes, which make it easier.  None of the key signatures are difficult, and none of the chords have a reach of more than an octave, making this music very playable for smaller hands.  My favorite pieces to play in this book are Joyful Running, Voice of God (Thanksgiving), Smoke Signals, and End of the Line.Isadar is an artist on both Enlightened Piano Radio & Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, the latter featuring some of today's biggest names in solo piano music, including Ludovico Einaudi, David Nevue, Brian Crain, Kevin Kern, Robin Spielberg, Michele McLaughlin, Philip Wesley and over 300 more... Autonomous since 2000, it voted for independence in 2019, which is scheduled to be obtained before 2027. The anthem of the autonomous territory was adopted in 2018 and will most likely be adopted as the new nation’s anthem once independence is achieved. Titled “My Bougainville�, the melody is that of the Australian patriotic song “The Song of Australia� (one of four songs considered on a national plebiscite for that country’s anthem, but was rejected), the lyricist is unknown. It is not uncommon for anthems in the Pacific region to use the tune of a patriotic song or hymn of a current or former colonizer (as evidenced by the “Pacific hymn� genre of anthems); Australia governed Bougainville as a part of Papua New Guinea from after World War I to Papua New Guinea’s independence in 1975. I have also taken the liberty of transposing this from the original key of F# (...oof) into the much more string & band-friendly key of G (and your purchase is all the thanks I need). I've added a few small flourishes, dynamic drops, and general instrumental interest throughout this arrangement, but would still describe this chart as sight-readable for professional players with experience playing pop/rock tunes. It's also well within the technical capability of high school or recreational ensembles with just a bit of practice, but if your violist hasn't ever seen a ghost note printed on a chart before, I would highly recommend taking 10 minutes to look it up...Performance time - approximately 3:20 straight through, longer if you loop back to the bridge like Hillsong Worship's live version. I picked her up from the dog pound and had 10 lovely years with her. I wrote the piece as I only had one photograph of her, I lost many photographs whilst moving house recently. When I first got her camera's on mobile phones didn't exist and I wasn't a keen photographer. Having only one image it made me nostalgic so I decided to write a tune. So instead of having memories in terms of photographs now I've got a musical one to go with the images in my head. It's a happy tune as she was a happy dog that made me laugh many times. It's written in an old fashioned piano style known as 'Stride Piano' which has it's roots in the ragtime of Scott Joplin and found it's peak in the piano stylings of the great Fat's Waller in the 'Roaring Twenties'. The British pianist Russ Conway has some bearing on my style which adds a bounce in the form of reverse 10ths.My notation is simple, I haven't added fingerings or dynamic marks. The tempo mark is only a guide. I do include chord symbols which I often find are the best aide to sight reading. It's a tricky style to master but extra notes in the bass can be left out and single notes alternating with chords will suffice. Hope you enjoy playing it.Please note this is a piano solo only and the other instruments featured in my YouTube video are not notated.

Most decisions are based on their current skills and abilities, or where I would like for them to be when they complete the piece.This arrangement was made for a late beginner student currently working on Federation class Elementary 2. Some very tricky fingering in the right hand, but worth the trouble. I chose not to transpose to another key with less sharps because its actually easier with the black keys, in my opinion. Sometimes it's good to throw them a good challenge, and it paid off for me. This was actually a more successful performance than his Federation piece at our recital!
