The arrangement features each instrument taking turns with the melody, counter melody, and motor. Total is 23 pages and the approx. run time of the piece is 2min 45seconds to 3minutes. About the arrangement: The arrangement is primarily written in 6/8, but features some metric modulation (going from dotted quarter 63 to quarter note 126bpm for example). This gives the piece a dramatic sense of escalation as it reaches the final passage. Each player will have his or her time to shine in the arrangement. Also, various playing techniques are used such as ricochet (on open strings), legato, marcato, spicc. It is all written in a way to maximize the virtuosic sound while maintaining a comfortability and playability. This arrangement is 4 mins long and in B flat major. It is not the easiest of keys for strings but neither is it the hardest. It needs lots of vibrato, especially for the first violin, and subtlety from the inner parts to make sure they are heard but do not overpower the melody. The excerpt is from the instrumental section in which I exercised a little creativity! I would think players would need to be ABRSM Grade 7 to be able to play this well, but I could be wrong! But having just one guitar means that the inner voice sometimes runs out of steam, and the bass voice jumps around from one octave to another. It always left me feeling there was a bit more music to be had amongst the notes.My arrangement, for 4 intermediate players (some of the parts are a little easier) is in a different key entirely. Spreading the workload allows a little more action to go on under the tune.Guitar 4 is 6=D, and it’s also supplied in bass clef (for a normally tuned contra guitar or similar). Either or both lines can be played.Although this can be played in swing (shuffle) rhythm, a straight rhythm allows a more relaxed and romantic feel to the piece, but feel free to try either...I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts.
