Soprano voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938913 Composed by Elissa Brill Pashkin. Concert,Contemporary. 23 pages. Elissa Brill Pashkin #73895. Published by Elissa Brill Pashkin (A0.938913). NOTE: This piano/vocal score is included as part of the full score package of this piece. It is not necessary to purchase it separately if you are buying the score and parts already. Halevi Songs is a 3-movement song cycle, composed in 2002. It is a setting of three poems (in English translation of the original Hebrew) of Judah Halevi, who was a Jewish scholar and poet who lived in Spain in the Middle Ages. The three movements are I. The Mirror, II. Do the Tears Know?, and III. Calm After the Storm. Each is just under three minutes. The total duration of the piece is between 8.5 and 9 minutes. The audio clip is from the third movement, in a performance of the sextet version of this piece. A complete recording is available upon request from the composer at ebrill@hcc.edu. The performers are Dianne Smith (soprano), Janet Polvino (flute), Isabelle Boggs (clarinet), Bob Ferrier (guitar), Craig Bitterman (percussion), and Joyce Crouch (piano). It may be performed with just piano accompaniment as well. Composer's Notes: The translation of the first poem, The Mirror, is by the 19th century American poet Emma Lazarus, most famous for her familiar words engraved on the Statue of Liberty: Give me your tired, your poorâ?¦ There has been some interesting academic discussion concerning this poem. It is generally attributed to Halevi, but some scholars now believe it may have been written by someone else. (I have also seen the translation attributed to someone else.) The second poem, Do the Tears Know? was originally a tombstone inscription for one of Haleviâ??s friends. This setting was written to honor my father, Harold Allan Brill, who passed away in January, 2000. The third poem, Calm After the Storm, is actually the second half of a longer poem about a sea voyage. The three songs are meant to be performed continuously, without a break in between. Licensed by BMI.

A Suite for British Style Brass Band which was chosen as the 4th Section Test Piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships 2015 in Skegness, UK. Each movement is based on a famous French Impressionist painting as follows:1. Boulevard Montmarte (Pissarro – 1897) The Boulevard Montmartre is one of the four grand boulevards of Paris. This painting gave me the idea of writing a piece to portray a journey in a pony and trap through this busy street scene, starting out serenely in the suburbs, travelling through all the hustle and bustle, before trailing off into the distance.  An all pervasive Poulenc mouvement perpetual accompaniment style is present throughout this movement. 2. Lac d'Annecy  (Cézanne - 1896) Although marked Waltz triste (sad waltz), the mood of the music is rather reflective in nature. This movement is the longest of the five and I would not recommend it being played too slow. Stylistically, it is a characteristic accordion piece, so touches of rubato here and there wouldn’t be out of keeping.  3. La Cathédrale de Rouen  (Monet - 1894) This is the most difficult movement to play in respect of intonation, with lots of unisons, octaves and parallel intervals. The opening should be a true piano in order to allow the piece grow. The plainsong statements should be played smoothly and with plenty of air.  4. Les Parapluies  (Renoir - 1884) A jaunty, playful theme leading in to a little fugue. A little low in places for the euphoniums and baritones. The music should skip along comfortably without rushing to allow the finer detail to come through.  5. Au Moulin Rouge  (Toulouse-Lautrec - 1895) A lively tempo, always chasing forward without slackening. As in the previous movement, good dynamic contrast, swells and tight precise articulation. Lots of work for everyone, especially the baritones and euphoniums. Take care that the mf dynamic of the 'bass solo' is not overdone. If needs must, the siren whistle could be substituted with a referee's whistle, but I would like my duck call! The champagne cork 'pops' are really more visual than audible, however, it would be advisable for more of the band to join in,  as required.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575306 Composed by Josquin des Prez. Arranged by David Musgrove. Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 18 pages. David Musgrove #182977. Published by David Musgrove (A0.575306). This setting of the moving Biblical text 'Absalon, fili me' ('Absalon, my son') was long attributed to Josquin des Prez (c. 1450-1521), but more recently is often reattributed to fellow Franco-Flemish Renaissance composer Pierre de la Rue. The two definitely met, and likely had an influence on each others' style, which has led to this lack of certainty of authorship. This arrangement keeps the original Latin lyrics in the trombone parts, which are intended to inform the performance of the music, in terms of phrasing and stresses. Note values are halved to suit modern notation. While technically relatively simple, sustained and well-phrased playing are the challenge here. Item number: DM 2809 MP3 sound file is produced from Sibelius.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767226 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 17 pages. Lyons Music Services #3087407. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767226). Monteverdi - The Fourth Book of Madrigals 1603In this book, Monteverdi continues to develop the techniques and writing practices that would eventually form the first opera and his Stile Nuovo. The polyphony becomes more complex and more tonal and the interdependence of the parts more striking. He is experimenting with more dissonance but also moves towards more tonal writing. Although a far cry from the I IV V and minor of the modern pop song, he is nonetheless helping to push forward a more diatonic type of harmony with a more dramatic tonal and harmonic structure that goes much more towards true word painting than his previous books. 10. Voi pur da me partite – You do not mind me, thoughFlexible quintet parts are supplied as follows:Part 1 in Bb,Part 2 in Bb, Part 3 in Bb/Eb/F, Part 4 in Bb/Eb/C(Bass clef) and Part 5 in Bb/Eb/C(Bass clef)Other transpositions available on request.

VERSATILE Titles that include four parts are written with the idea that they can be performed with 1, 2, 3 or 4 musicians. Most of the contemporary/popular titles include a chord chart for a bass instrument. PRACTICE needs would vary according to the level of the performers but my goal is to be sight-readable for most performers and groups. AUDIO SAMPLE The 30 second mp3 is frequently shortened and may not start at the introduction to get to the reprise. The actual introduction will be in the sheet music. LISTENABILITY I have performed thousands of weddings and special events. I make it a goal for the music to carry as well as possible through loud and large space situations. ARRANGEMENTS usually follow the original version. There is an mp3 where you can hear 30 seconds and get a feeling of the originality of the work. EXCELLENT for corporate events, weddings, social gatherings and recitals. APPROPRIATE for students and schools. CHURCH REPERTOIRE I’m always adding more titles. High voice and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8454-2E Composed by David Conte. Secular, 21st century. Instrument part. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8454-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8454-2E). English.American Death Ballads was composed especially for tenor Brian Thorsett. We have been frequent collaborators since 2011, when he premiered the complete set of my Three Settings of W. B. Yeats for string quartet and tenor. At his urging, I transcribed and published my Three Poems of Christina Rossetti (originally for medium voice) for high voice, which he premiered at the San Francisco Conservatory in 2014. American Death Ballads was premiered by him at the San Francisco Conservatory, November 1, 2015, with pianist John Churchwell, and at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference in Chicago, July 10, 2016, with pianist Warren Jones. The choice of texts for my American Death Ballads was inspired partly by Copland’s Old American Songs, which I deeply admire, but more by my dear friend and colleague the late Conrad Susa’s Two Murder Ballads. The ingenuity of Susa’s accompaniments for his ballads in imagining anew the original source material owes a great deal to Copland’s accompaniment for his songs. Though the content of my songs is completely original and not based on preexisting melodies, I have tried to expand on this further, as the texts are much longer, and go through many different moods and characters. The four texts I chose include stories about murder, death, and dying. Though two of the texts were written in England, they traveled to the colonies almost immediately. The subjects of the texts had spent time in America, and their stories were well known to Americans.Wicked Polly is a cautionary tale. Polly has lived a dissolute and immoral life, saying, 'I'll turn to God when I grow old.' Suddenly taken ill, she realizes that it is too late to repent. She dies in agony and is presumably sent to hell; young people are advised to heed. My musical setting is stately and preacherly in character for the narrator; for Polly it becomes pleading and remorseful. The Unquiet Grave was brought to the attention of Alan Lomax, the great American field collector of folk music, by English folk singer Shirley Collins. The text is taken from an English folk song dating from 1400. In The Unquiet Grave, a young man mourns his dead lover too fervently and prevents her from obtaining peace. The dead woman complains that his weeping is keeping her from peaceful rest. He begs a kiss; she tells him it would kill him. When he persists, wanting to join her in death, she explains that once they were both dead their hearts would simply decay, and that he should enjoy life while he has it. My setting is in a flowing Andante with a rocking accompaniment. Three voices are delineated here: the narrator, the mournful lover, and the dead lover speaking from the grave. The Dying Californian first appeared in the New England Diadem in 1854. Its lyrics are based on a letter from a New Englander’s sailor to his brother who is dying at sea while on the way to California to seek his fortune in the California gold fields. He implores his brother to impart his message to his father, mother, wife, and children. My setting opens with the singer alone in a moderate dirge tempo, then, joined by the piano, moves through many tonalities and moods before ending with supreme confidence as the speaker 'gained a port called Heaven/Where the gold will never rust.'Captain Kidd was a Scottish sailor who was tried and executed for piracy and murder in 1701. The American connection to this ballad is that Kidd escaped to America and for a time lived in New York and Boston, though he was a wanted criminal by the British authorities and was extradited to Britain, where he was hung at 'Executioner’s Dock.' The lyric was printed in Britain in 1701, traveling to the colonies almost immediately. Though the didactic tone of the text is similar to Wicked Polly, it expresses no regret until the final lines: 'Take warning now by me, and shun bad company, / Lest you come to hell with me, for I must die.' My setting is fast and spirited, expressing the confidence of a man who lived life as he wanted. -David Conte.

2 Pianos,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1175185 By Paul Posnak & Anita Castiglione. By George Gershwin. Arranged by Paul Posnak. 20th Century,Classical,Jazz,Standards. Score. 10 pages. Paul Posnak #775326. Published by Paul Posnak (A0.1175185). Arrangement for 2 pianos, 4 hands of Swanee by George Gershwin.Foreword by the arranger:George Gershwin, since his days as a teenage song-plugger in Tin Pan Alley, loved the medium of two pianos. A consummate improviser with a harmonically sophisticated, jazz-influenced,orchestral approach to the treatment of melody, he was born into the great age of touring duo piano teams, such as Bauer and Gabrilowitsch, Josef and Rhosina Levine, Luboshutz and Nemenoff, and Gershwin's favorite team, Arden and Ohman. Gershwin loved the multi-voiced orchestral color, power and range of two pianists playing and improvising together. In his first major show written with brother Ira, the 1924 Lady Be Good, he incorporated the renowned team of Phil Ohman and Victor Arden into the musical theater pit orchestra, not only to add to the orchestra's sound and rhythmic drive, but also to play during breaks in the action and during Intermission. They even played encores! This successful formula was repeated for the 1926 show, Oh, Kay, and for the 1927 show, Funny Face.Gershwin's own bravura improvisations on his songs sound, even to the trained ear, like two pianos. I have transcribed (and digitally re-recorded) a number of these improvisations note-for-note from the old LP-remastered 78 rpm records and radio broadcasts. I have tried to capture his own two-fisted orchestral keyboard style: his love of inner voices, contrapuntal runs, jazz figurations, sophisticated chordal textures, and swing. These arrangements resulted from my appearance in 2003 as one of two soloists in several all-Gershwin concerts with The National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marvin Hamlisch. Marvin suggested that I also play a couple of my Gershwin improvisation transcriptions, and we thought it would be a perfect touch for Lorin Hollander, the other soloist, and me to play a short two-piano piece. I was surprised to find very few two-piano arrangements of Gershwin's songs. I became inspired to fill this void in the duo piano repertoire. It is my hope that these settings will offer a worthy challenge and musical reward for intermediate and advanced piano students and amateurs, and a unique addition to the duo piano literature for professional pianists and duo piano teams the world over.Paul Posnak.

Piano,Voice Duet Baritone Horn TC,Piano,Soprano voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1101414 Composed by Brett L. Wery. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. 52 pages. Sonata Grendel Publishing #704802. Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.1101414). I. Hammering on Rocks text by Joseph Ross II. Normal text by Reginald Harris III. My Body Holds Stones text by Laura Tohe IV. The Museum of Stones text by Carolyn Forché. Quarry Songs were written as a project initiated by my long-time friend and colleague, Mark Evans. Mark and I have spent hundreds of hours rehearsing and performing together so when he asked me to participate in a project to create a song cycle as part of a residency at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute in New Hampshire, I said yes immediately. Joining us were former students, now colleagues, Areli Mendoza-Pannone (soprano) and Robert Frazier (baritone). During our residency at Avaloch, the trio and I organized Zoom meetings with the poets and work-shopped many sections of the songs. I am immensely grateful for the contributions Mark, Areli, and Bobby made to this piece. I am especially indebted to the four amazing poets for their powerful, inspiring poems. These are works of courage, honesty, and craftsmanship and I’m humbled by the writer’s trust and generosity as I attempt to add a dimension to their work that is worthy of the source. The poems represent varied American perspectives of the artifacts of human existence and the trajectory of our culture(s), the human capacity to grow numb to suffering, the weight and cost of identity—self imposed and projected—on ourselves, our nation, and our children. Most importantly the poems witness our power to change the world through art. These poems recall the courage of Nelson Mandela, the paralysis that comes with the twenty year old war in Afghanistan, the lasting wounds of inflicted upon children in boarding schools designed to eradicate native cultures, and the markers of war and suffering that call as much for hope as for remorse. I chose poets whose voices represent not only suppressed perspectives but also the voices of Americans born of privilege, willing to use the power of art to focus the readers’ minds on the rough truths of our shared history as Americans.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522333 Composed by Unknown - traditional. Arranged by Paul A. Jorg. Christian,Spiritual,Traditional. Octavo. 4 pages. Paul A. Jorg #5869331. Published by Paul A. Jorg (A0.522333). This song is public domain, written in the 1850's, during a time - pre-civil war - when the nation was being torn apart. The writer calms his anxiety by holding on to God's promises. Here are some lyric notes:   I am a poor, wayfaring stranger -  Wayfaring: traveling especially on foot; peripatetic country preachers; a poor wayfaring stranger.   Wandering through this world of woe -  Matthew 18:7: Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin!  Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! And there's no sickness, toil or danger -  John 11:4: When he heard this, Jesus said, This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.   Ecclesiastes 2:18-19: I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.  Acts 14:22: strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,  In that bright land to which I go -  James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.I'm going home to see my Father -  John 6:40 -  For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.   I'm only going over Jordan -  Joshua 22:4:  Now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD  gave you on the other side of the Jordan.   Yet though dark clouds will gather round me -  2 Corinthians 12:10: That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak,  then I am strong.   I know my way is rough and steep -  Psalm 16:11: You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.   Proverbs 15:24:  The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. But beauteous fields lie just before me -  Numbers 13:25: We arrived in the land you sent us to see, and it is indeed a magnificient country, a land flowing with milk and honey.   Where God's redeemed their vigil's keep - Exodus12:42:  Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD  for the generations to come.  I'm going home to see my mother -  Mark 10:29-31: I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me  and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions.
