I thought about how close We Three Kings was in places and decided it was a great song to do a combo with. This version is for ST duet with an SATB choir - ahs only, flute quartet and piano. I have this in all kind of version including a women's version and SATB as well. I have version of just duet and piano and then with choir or with strings as well. Gaudete for SATB choir and pianoThis Christmas Carol first appeared in print in a Finnish publication of 1582 entitled Piæ Cantiones Ecclesiasticæ et Scholasticæ Veterum Episcoporum. The æolian modal polyphony and Medieval Latin text suggest a much earlier date of composition originating from central Europe; the plainsong melody of the verses is derived from liturgical sources of the same period and was not included in the original document.This new arrangement of Gaudete is based closely on the original music and text. However, the original key of G minor has been transposed to D minor to create more variety in the voicing, yet remaining faithful to the original vocal parts.The piano accompaniment in the refrain is simply an amalgamation of the voices and therefore, in order to create a pure a cappella sound in performance, the piano part may be omitted and used solely for rehearsal purposes. As the verses were originally sung unaccompanied, the piano part in this arrangement has been devised to compliment the plainsong melody, but of course may be omitted in performance if preferred.Originally, each verse would probably have been sung by a solo tenor voice. However, in this arrangement, each of the four verses has been allocated to a different soloist. This is a revised version (September 2023) of the original arrangement and has been transposed down a tone with improved voice movement. The main theme is in 7/8 time, divided into 2, 2, and 3. It might sound tricky but singers will soon get to feel the rhythm and become completely at home in this time signature. Its recommended that the singers practise by counting 1-2-1-2-1-2-3 perhaps by also clapping on the off-beats. There’s plenty of contrast in the piece and singers are sure to enjoy the music. It’s scored for SSA choir (or boy choir) with keyboard accompaniment. The middle section uses much vocal counterpoint and has almost a waltz feeling to it so the singers would need to feel confident with indepedent vocal lines. There are no divisi sections and the piano part is of moderate difficulty but should be playable by any competent pianist. This joyful, rhythmic anthem would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. The voice ranges are as follows: Soprano 1 (C4 -F5); Soprano 2 (C4 - D5); Alto (A flat 3 – D5).
