Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768520 Composed by Victor Ewald. Arranged by Roar Kvam. 20th Century. 204 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6424311. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768520). Victor Ewald 27 November 1860 - 16 April 1935 Ewald was a Russian composer of music, mainly for conical brass instruments. He was born in Saint Petersburg and died in Leningrad. He also collected and published Russian folk songs. Ewald’s professional life, like that of many of his musical contemporaries, was in an entirely different field; that of a civil engineer, in which he excelled, being appointed in 1900 as professor and manager of the Faculty of Construction Materials at the Institute of Civil Engineers. Brass players however are indebted to him for something very different – a series of quintets which have become a staple of the repertoire and which represent almost the only, and certainly the most extended examples of original literature in the Romantic style. Ewald’s formal musical training began in 1872 when he enrolled at the St Petersburg Conservatory at the age of twelve. Founded in 1861 by Anton Rubenstein, this institution was the first of its kind in Russia and it was here that Ewald received lessons in cornet, piano, horn, cello, harmony and composition. As an adult he worked alongside fellow musical nationalists known collectively as the Mighty Handful-Borodin, Mily Balakirev, CeÌsar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and the most famous of all, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. All of these men had day jobs in non-musical fields.Ewald’s contributions as a composer reflected an abiding love for brass instruments for which he wrote his quintets scored originally for two cornets, alto horn, baritone horn and tuba. I've edited these four quartets using Ewald's original instrumentation, but there are also separate substitute parts for the modern brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn in F, trombone and tuba). Cello,Clarinet,Cornet,Double Bass,Drum Set,Flute,Piano,Trombone,Tuba,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1401308 By Gazza's Razztime Orchestra. By Charles L. Johnson. Arranged by Gary Blake Peterson. Pop,Ragtime,Standards. 43 pages. Gary Blake Peterson #982610. Published by Gary Blake Peterson (A0.1401308). Charles L. Johnson's (1875-1950) Iola was first  published in 1905 as an intermezzo, and again in 1906 as an Indian-themed love song. It had a new life when the song Playmates was released as a “new†composition by Saxie Dowell in 1940. Playmates sounded suspiciously identical to the chorus of Iola, and Johnson and Jerry Vogel (who owned the copyright) eventually settled the case of potential plagiarism out of court for a significant sum. Playmates has since become a common playground melody and a “clapping song†throughout American schoolyards today. This happy and joyous version by Gary Blake Peterson is based on Johnson's original piano score, with ragtime elements added to the chorus. It is scored for 13-piece ragtime orchestra: String quartet, plus flute, clarinet, 2 cornets, trombone, tuba, drum set, piano, and double bass.

Contemporary. Brass Band. 82 pages. Lyons Music Services #3227757. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767284). I wrote this march and dedicated it to my current band, Old Hall Brass,  when I was first playing with them in 2003. Now that I'm back with them after a 9 year hiatus, I felt it only appropriate to publish it here. The opening 10 bars are a bit of a muck-around and are entirely optional. OHB's current conductor, John North, likes to entertain, so it's basically a tuning up section, like you would find in an orchestral concert but with some laughs thrown in!The march starts for real at the Segno. There's a fanfare-like opening which leads into the first main melody for the euphonium and solo horn. This is repeated with extra fanfare interjections from the trombones. The bass solo is a fairly traditional part of a march and this is no exception, except that it is not repeated. Another fanfare-like section leads into a reprise of the euphonium/horn melody with interjections from trombones and cornets. The final section is similar to the opening fanfare before the DS. Repeats should not be played on the DS.

Arranged by Karl Whelan. Classical. Brass Band. 187 pages. Karl Whelan #643646. Published by Karl Whelan (A0.1038661). According to legend, Death appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle (here represented by the solo cornets). His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn when they must return to their graves until the next year. Staying as true to the original as possible, with some minor alterations, this piece is sure to liven up any Halloween concert (If they are even a thing!). The piece has been arranged for a full brass band with 3-4 percussionists. Bass Clef parts included for Baritones downwards.

It is easily playable by any standard of ensemble and follows the standard march format. The first section is a jolly, bouncy tune and needs to played with panache. The bass solo is well within the capabilities of most bass sections. The trio section is quite a contrast, with a legato melody in the solo baritone part, which is joined by the cornets, euph and flugel on the repeat. I had a good baritone player who deserved the chance to shine.I have added parts for American instruments (F horns, baritones/trombones/euphoniiums/basses in Bass clef).

Instrumental Duet,Piano Cornet,Euphonium,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1326976 By Stewart J Wallace. By Stewart J Wallace. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Contest,Festival,Praise & Worship. 22 pages. Stewart J Wallace #915038. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1326976). L'amour en hiver (Love in winter) is an original duet arranged for two brass instruments with piano accompaniment. It has a lilting quality, like gently falling snowflakes, and it starts with the instruments having a musical conversation before they both combine - the piano is also an intergral part of the conversation with its own solo section. Aim for an expressive, lyrical quality to your playing and it will help to evoke the peaceful spirit of Christmas and that love is always there in our world, even in the darkest of times.A piano score with individual parts is included, and you can try this in various combinations - 2 cornets,  or 2 euphoniums, or 1 of each. Bass clef versions for euphonium are also included in the set. This would suit intermediate to advanced performers.

Brass Ensemble Cornet,Horn,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1227819 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Renaissance,Traditional. Score and Parts. 44 pages. Jmsgu3 #823781. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1227819). Minimum instrumentation: 4 cornets in Bb, 4 French Horms in F, 2 Trombones. See also arrangement à 12 which includes 2 Bass Trombones.InnovationsGabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style.Polychoral WorksGabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well.Spatial MusicAbove all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance.First WorksFinally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung.HomophonyHence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.
