A strange thing happened when I was writing it in that a chorale melody imposed itself on the tune (at letter E) quite out of the blue. This is similar to Nun Danket, but there are differences. I felt compelled to keep it harmonised in a chorale style. It appears again at the end as the carol fades into the distance.
