The Yellow Ribbon representing a person's test or trial while they wait for their loved ones to return home has been around for over 400 years. It was prevalent during the English Civil War during the mid-1600s and again by the US Calvary in the late 1800s. The 1972 chart Tie A Yellow Ribbon by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown may have been influenced by the older She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, first copyrighted in 1917 by George Norton. Or maybe the 1949 John Wayne movie by the same title. The impact of Tony Orlando's cover of Tie A Yellow Ribbon pushed the symbolism into the public eye after its release in 1973, especially in light of Vietnam and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Today it represents various support groups in different countries; from AIDS to Cancer, to Suicide Prevention, and supporting troops, with a major resurgence in use during the War in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11. This setting for British Style Brass Band is a wonderful addition to the repertoire list for concerts supporting many great causes. Duration ~3:00. 54 pages.

It opens with the infamous narration: ‘In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.’ The show revolves around four members of the fictitious United States Army Special Forces unit. These are the leader Colonel/Colonel John Hannibal Smith (played by George Peppard), smooth-talking Lieutenant Templeton Peck or Face (Dirk Benedict), pilot Captain H.M. Howling Mad Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and mechanic Sergeant First Class Bosco B.A. Baracus (Mr. T). The main theme was composed by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter, although the version they created was not the same as the theme heard on-screen (which is what this arrangement is of). The theme has been ranked among the best TV themes every written. Interesting, the French version of the theme has lyrics that mirror the spoken description of the English version of the show. In 2010, 20th Century Fox released a feature film based on the series starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley as the A-Team. Alan Silvestri composed the soundtrack. This arrangement of the Main Theme is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for piccolo trumpet, horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. It has been designed to work just as well for indoor performances as outdoor concerts. It also has the band parts reduced down to march-card size for use with a lyre as well as a music stand (making it ideal for events such as Durham Miners' Gala). A recording from the original soundtrack can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVonyVSQoM.

Green, Green Grass of Home written by Claude Curly Putman Jr., and first recorded by singer Johnny Darrell in 1965, is a country song made popular by Porter Wagoner the same year, when it reached No. 4 on the Country chart. It was also recorded by Bobby Bare and by Jerry Lee Lewis, who included it in his album Country Songs for City Folks. Tom Jones learned the song from Lewis' version and, in 1966, he had a worldwide No. 1 hit with it.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was marketed as the third and final installment in the Dollars Trilogy, following A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. The score is composed by frequent Leone collaborator Ennio Morricone. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly broke previous conventions on how the two had previously collaborated. Instead of scoring the film in the post-production stage, they decided to work on the themes together before shooting had started, this was so that the music helped inspire the film instead of the film inspiring the music. Leone even played the music on set and coordinated camera movements to match the music. The main theme, resembling the howling of a coyote, is a two-pitch melody that is a frequent motif, and is used for the three main characters. The main theme, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, was a hit in 1968 with the soundtrack album on the charts for more than a year.Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to stay updated on new releases.
