It's Not Unusual is a song written by Les Reed and Gordon Mills, first recorded by a then-unknown Tom Jones, after it had first been offered to Sandie Shaw. He intended it as a demo for her, but when she heard it she was so impressed with his delivery that she recommended he sing it instead. The BBC initially refused to play it because of his sexy image, but UK pirate radio did not. He sang the song twice in 1965 on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York City, on 2 May and 13 June. He did it again on 21 April 1968. This arrangement is a great addition to the Brass Band Library which will carry on for years to come.

This project was inspired by the way two rivers collide. The song starts in a major key for the first section and modulates to a minor key for the middle section. This is a beautiful, and stirring arrangement of Gustav Holst's tune to In The Bleak Midwinter, for small to medium sized brass band or ensemble. Original scored for a small brass band parts are included in various transitions and clefs to ensure flexibility, including concert pitch, treble and bass clef parts and Eb and F horns. The piece consists of 3 settings of the melody, the first for solo part 4, originally Euphonium. The second verse keeps the melody in Part 4, now joined by Parts 2,3 and 5. There is a transition that builds up to a stirring final presentation of the tune for the full on ensemble, before a quieter coda concludes the piece. The piece would be suitable for use in a wide variety of Christmas Carol concerts and events in the holiday season.
