Arranged for a traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, with alternate parts clarinet in B-flat substitute for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat substitute for horn, and bass clarinet in B-flat substitute for bassoon, the arrangement has wide audience appeal and is very accessible for less experienced players. The arrangement requires good individual rhythmic security on the part of the performers  since the parts often dovetail where the piano range would allow for an entire passage to be performed. Unlike so may other of Debussy impressionistic works, this has  a real jazzy feel that compliments the cakewalk dance. .

This is an arrangement for euphonium tuba quartet of Golliwogg's Cakewalk from Children's Corner, a piano cycle said to have been composed by Claude Debussy for his beloved daughter, Claude Emma. This extremely rhythmical piece is based on the Cakewalk, a two-beat dance music that is said to be one of the origins of jazz, but Debussy is said to have hated this music. The piece also includes a passage from Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, which he also disliked, and is ironic in its own way. It is best to play it humorously, without the heaviness that comes with playing it in the bass clef.
