Here is a beautiful, gently flowing arrangement for an instrumental trio (CELLO and VIOLIN duet with PIANO accompaniment). The tune is the traditional American melody PLEADING SAVIOR from Joshua Leavitt's Christian Lyre. Though this song is known by many titles, this title, Rainbow of His Love, corresponds to the lyrics about the rainbow by Flora Kirkland (lyrics sheet included for reference).  The VIOLIN carries the melody for the first verse while the CELLO adds harmony. For the second time through the song (after a short piano interlude), the CELLO carries the melody while the VIOLIN alternates between a descant and harmony. This is a fairly easy and straight-forward arrangement for both instruments and accompanist. The range for each instrument is as follows: VIOLIN – F4 to A5; CELLO – A2 to D4. For both the VIOLIN and CELLO, all notes are playable in the first position making this piece an excellent choice for early intermediate string players. Duration 3:00. The Gate of Tears is a piano solo arrangement of the 1905 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have created four distinctively different sections.  Section 1 I have double dotted the rhythm of the melody and added staccato chords in the inner voice to give this section a bouncy feel.  I really slow down and soften the dolorosa Section with double note values and fuller chords.  Section 3 picks the tempo back up and has a groove of detached jazz chords.  Section 4 slows back down into a stately bridge of thick duple chords.  There is a D.C. of the first two sections.  A great piece of powerful emotional drama.   2 page score; 2:14 minutesThis piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

I have converted the main theme into an oom-pah-pah waltz and greatly increased the tempo to a brisk concert waltz. The B theme resorts to a waltz ballad similar to the original. There is then a brief recapitulation of the oom-pah-pah theme, and a soft lento ballad ending.
