This collection of 33 songs was created to provide quartet arrangements for nearly any ensemble you can form. Mostly built in choral-style, all books are arranged in standard SATB voicing. The soprano part (top line) is always the melody. Because all books have all parts transposed, players can shift parts as desired to pass the melody around, regardless of the instrument mix. For example, have the tenor voice take the melody on the second time. The other voices can swap or move around to cover all the parts. The C book was the foundation for all the variation books. In some cases, parts have been shifted to eliminate a great number of ledger lines, but the chord structure is the same.There are six books in the series: C Score (treble clef top, bass clef bottom), C treble clef, C bass clef, Bb treble clef, Eb treble clef, F treble clef.This is the C Score version.

I adapted this movement of Bizet's only symphony for my high school orchestra so that they would have the experience and challenge of performing a major symphonic work written by Bizet when he was 17 years old-like many of them. The movement fit programing concerns (only lasting 12 minutes, 8 minutes without the repeat) and instrumentation demands for the orchestra I had at the school at that time. I found limited similar repertoire available that was appropriate to challenge my students. I was also personally motivated to dig deeper into this piece by adapting it, much like early composers learned by serving as copyists for previous musical legends. More recently, I performed this as a guest conductor with a senior level honors orchestra in Massachussetts. In both cases the work was the focus of musical stimulation as well as inspiring fully engaged student conversation about many aspects of this movement. In short, the students enjoyed preparing and performing the piece, almost as much as the audiences were impressed by the performances. Hopefully Bizet's teacher at the Paris Conservatiore, Charles Gounod, rewarded Bizet with a good grade! I put in the extra time to publish this so that many other students would have the opportunity to study this piece, composer, style and period of music. I sincerely hope that you and your orchestra will enjoy Allegro vivo from Symphonie in C Major!

According to Steven Zohn in his Music for a Mixed Taste: Style, Genre, and Meaning in Telemann's Instrumental Works (Oxford University Press, 2008) the menuets in this collection were first published by the composer in Hamburg in 1728 under the title Sept fois sept et un menuet (Seven times Seven plus One Menuets), and most likely were issued to subscribers in groups of seven throughout the year. While only a combined score with melody lines in the treble clef and figured bass has survived, an advertisement from the time suggests that either part may have been available on its own. These arrangements have been created by raising the bass line into the treble clef, creating a part playable by mandolin, violin or any other instrument capable of reaching the G below middle C. I was able to preserve the shape of the bass lines in most cases although I did sometimes have to ignore octave leaps and, in two or three spots (with great reluctance), I was forced to change a note.These duos are both educational and fun. They are suitable for both private enjoyment and public performance and make excellent teaching tools.

Putting these two tunes together was too much fun for tubas only, so this is the trombone quartet arrangement utilizing portions of two famous American (ish) tunes, Stars and Stripes Forever and Beer Barrel Polka.  Fun! Fun!  Super fun stuff for four trombones.  The top trombone part does stretch to triple C and the bass trombone part does descend to pedal tone range.  However, in both cases, ossia notes are included to accommodate any ensemble needs.  To make rehearsal easy, generous rehearsal marks are (as always) included.  Get those trombones going and celebrate!  Enjoy!
