Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.999619 Composed by Peter Benoit. Arranged by Marc Goris. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 15 pages. Brassery Publications #6025981. Published by Brassery Publications (A0.999619). The Duke of Alva's entry into Brussels from The Pacification of Ghent,  duration : 2 min music : Peter Benoit arr. : Marc Goris Peter Benoit composed music based on the historical drama with the title 'De Pacificatie van Gent' by Emiel Van Goethem. Because of the combination of drama and music he defined the piece as a lyrical drama. He completed The Pacification of Ghent on 11 July 1876, the world premiere happening on 3 September at the Ghent Municipal Theatre.   On 8 November 1576 a treaty was proclaimed from the balcony of the city hall in Ghent between the different regions of the southern and the northern Netherlands. This Pacification of Ghent occurred after the revolt against the Spanish occupation of Philip the Second and was the great ideal of William of Orange: he was striving for unity in the seventeen provinces in the Netherlands as well as for freedom of religion. Furthermore the treaty stipulated that the Spanish troops were to be removed from the Netherlands. Although this treaty was observed for only three years, the Pacification was embellished with a mythical aura in the Flanders of the 19th century. King Philip II sent the Duke of Alva to Brussels on 22 August 1567, at the head of a powerful army. On arrival, Alva replaced Margaret of Parma, the sister of the Spanish king, as head of the civil jurisdiction. He decided that the local nobility was in open rebellion against the king and supported the new Protestant teachings, heresy in his view. A few days later, on 5 September 1567, Alva established the Council of Troubles, popularly known in the Netherlands as the Court of Blood, to prosecute those responsible for the riots of 1566, especially those who were deemed heretics. Alba also targeted the local Catholic nobility, who favoured dialogue and opposed outside intervention. Two of the three heads of the Flemish nobility, the Count of Egmont, a Catholic General for Philip II, who had led the cavalry that defeated the French at the Battle of San Quentin, and Philip de Montmorency, Count of Horn, were arrested. The court sentenced both counts to death. The Major of Antwerpen, Anthony van Stralen, Lord of Merksem and Jan van Casembroot were other famous victims of the bloody repression, along with a large group of other heretics. The condemned persons were executed on 5 June 1568 in the Town Hall Square in Brussels. Alva had little confidence in Flemish justice, which he perceived as sympathetic to the defendants, and witnessed the executions in person.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1022758 Composed by Stefano Maria Torchio. Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 6 pages. Stefano Torchio #3142875. Published by Stefano Torchio (A0.1022758). S. M. Torchio: En Archè en o Logos (2007)A deep and powerful reflection on the first lines of John's Gospel and the mistery of the Creation and of the beginning. The fascinating sound of ancient Greek creates a dialectic relationship with the modern international english language. All happens wihin a very interesting proposal for an avantgarde sacred music fitted for liturgical uses too. A considerable number of singers and of strings is required in order to create an adequate sound space and colour. Particular care is required by the intonation and the creation and substain of the right tone (which are perhaps the biggest challenge by the piece) but the entire music created by the phonemata and the training about it could be very funny and very precious and helpful for an interesting growth of a very fine Choir. The piece won the International Composition Competition Anima Mundi organized by the Opera Primaziale di Pisa in 2009.Stefano Maria TorchioItalian Violinist, Composer and Conductor, spent his education between Italy and the University of Music and Performing Art in Vienna, where he studied Orchestral Conducting with U. Lajovic and J. Wildner and Choir Conducting with E. Ortner and T. Lang. Further studies made Torchio in Violin, Composition and Organ at the Music Conservatory of Padua (his home town). He won prizes by international composition competitions like the Anima Mundi of the Opera Primaziale di Pisa, the A. Casella of the Accademia Chigiana of Siena, In memoriam... Johannes XXIII of Comune di Sotto il Monte, the MiniMusicDrama of Ovada and the Composition Prize of the Music Conservatory of Padua. He also participated by seminaries and masterclasses in Composition and Conducting with important Maestri like Z. Metha, F. Luisi, B. de Billy, S. Young, G. Andretta, A. Corghi, I. Fedele, C. Ambrosini, M. Lichtfuß and R. Vaglini by important Academies and Institution like the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, the R. Romanini Foundation in Brescia and the Accademia L. Perosi in Biella. Small Ensemble Timpani,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977352 By Louis Armstrong & His Orchestra. By Moises Simons. Arranged by Des McNutty. Contemporary. Score and parts. 12 pages. Des Press #6438143. Published by Des Press (A0.977352). Part of the series A Pulchritudinous Posy of Pleasing Party-PiecesA few fancies for five-part natural trumpet ensemble* with optional timpani. At last: Some new repertoire for the historical natural trumpet! This one-handed instrument was familiar to composers such as JS Bach, Handel, Telemann, Purcell, Vivaldi etc., but was largely neglected after the invention of valves in the early 19th century - and the subsequent invention of the nodal vent-hole systems in the late 20th-century - until recently, when the elusive lost art of clarino playing (in the fourth octave and above) was cracked by dedicated optimists such as Don L Smithers and JF Madeuf. These arrangements are a stylistic departure from the trumpet's golden age of Baroque repertoire, featuring works well known in the 20th century, and provide excellent training for rhythmic precision, style, pitching and team playing. They're also fun, if you like that sort of thing. Advice on tuning up the differently-pitched instruments and a technical tip are included. The current regulations on SMP mean us little guys can only publish in-copyright works one at a time. So, you can collect them all and make yourself a tome!  These arrangements were originally written for Lunchtime Tower Music (weather permitting), at the Dartington International Summer School between roughly 2000 and 2010, for courses led by Michael Laird and David Staff. Such performances from the mediæval clock tower involved the various brass and other wind classes playing seriously with an informal atmosphere. Logistical issues, a narrow staircase and the ubiquitous Health-and-Safety regulations prevented the use of timpani on the tower but sometimes larger groups, and those involving vertigo sufferers, played in the courtyard instead. These pieces are the opposite of playing Baroque music on modern, or postmodern instruments. Get them all now and enjoy a refreshing change! Enjoy! DM

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1403965 Composed by Danny Marsden S. Widdicombe. Arranged by Geo. Doughty (arranger) & Peet du Toit (orchestrator). Folk,Pop. 73 pages. Peet du Toit #987145. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1403965). Grandfather's Clock (popularly known as My Grandfather's Clock) is a song written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work, the author of Marching Through Georgia. It is a standard of British brass bands and colliery bands, and is also popular in bluegrass music. The Oxford English Dictionary says the song was the origin of the term grandfather clock for a longcase clock. In 1905, the earliest known recording of this song was performed by Harry Macdonough and the Haydn Quartet (known then as the Edison Quartet). The song, told from a grandchild's point of view, is about his grandfather's clock. The clock is purchased on the morning of the grandfather's birth and works perfectly for 90 years, requiring only that it be wound at the end of each week. The clock seems to know the good and bad events in the grandfather's life; it rings 24 chimes when the grandfather brings his new wife into his home, and near his death it rings an alarm, which the family recognizes to mean that the elderly gentleman is near death and gathers by his bed. After the grandpa dies, the clock suddenly stops, and never works again. This famous Euphonium solo, with brass quintet, but also with Sam Harrill's percussive magic. Enjoy!
