In 2017, it was selected as the winner of the Indiana Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Contest.Performance Notes: I have particularly fond memories of The Earthling because I remember it as the first piece I composed that truly helped me believe in myself as a composer. I was inspired to compose The Earthling based on an idea I had for a sci-fi/fantasy story when I was in high school. In the story, the main character is a young girl from the planet Earth, who finds herself transported to a galaxy not her own. This piece serves as her character theme. The ending has been described as throwaway, in comparison to certain works of the French composer Francis Poulenc. I very intentionally crafted this ending to allude to an eerily ethereal feel.
