In 1868, he became the Professor of Oboe at the Paris Conservatory. His series of eight Solos were written for the exams of his class. He died on July 26, 1881 in Paris.

The saxophone part was obviously the soprano instrument in C of the “orchestral†family of C-F instruments,which are no longer in use except for the C-Melody Tenor instrument. These versions are published for the more common series of instruments in Bb and Eb. The saxophone part is the same as for the instruments in C, but the piano part is transposed to keep the ranges the same.
