Charles Gounod composed his Ave Maria adding his new vocal line over Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier. This version (in G major) is for string quartet alone. A vocalist can be added, as the first violin part doubles Gounod's original vocal line. This divides Bach's original arpeggios between the viola and second violin. These two parts are modestly difficult. Fingerings have been provided for the more awkward arpeggios. Perfect for weddings, and funerals.

It was filmed in Panavision, and its musical score was composed by Elmer Bernstein.Based on Paul Brickhill's 1950 non-fiction book of the same name, the film depicts a heavily fictionalized version of the mass escape by British Commonwealth prisoners of war from German POW camp Stalag Luft III during the Second World War.
