Although Bertold Hummel composed this Scherzo for bassoon and chamber orchestra more than fifty years ago, the piece still captivates every listener with its youthful, carefree liveliness. Virtuoso and witty, it does justice to its title in every respect. It was created in 1957 upon commission of the Kleines Unterhaltungsorchester Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. The solo part of the four-minute concert piece with the tempo indication 'allegro molto' was tailor-made by Hummel for the orchestra's principal bassoonist Helmut Böker. In addition to the hire material, a piano score with solo part is now available on sale.

It got its final form in the second of three versions in 1878. The symphony premiered on 20 February 1881 in Vienna with the Vienna  Philharmonic conducted by Hans Richter. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and  first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2018 at the  Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. The three female voices, overlapping and assisting each other like waves of water, symbolise the faceless persona of nature: perhaps the wind rustling through the tree; perhaps the trees themselves. Much like the text, the music begins sweetly, but with one word the atmosphere is sent in a completely different direction. The second half of the piece sees the voices fittin the shape of wedding bells, almost mockingly, with the alto line bringing imposing strength underneath.

Written for the T-Town Jazz Band and named for a Tulsa landmark, this is a big band swing tune in F minor blues with solos and exposure aplenty most notably in the third trombone part. The piece follows a chap who is happily walking (or jaunting) down Cherry Street. Three other guys come in and pick up his melody as a unison trio. This moves into a quick verse in the ensemble before the four players each take a solo turn almost like a combo. The party then takes off with the full band before it moves back to the trio wandering off while crowd bids them farewell and the original soloist takes a final turn. The reason there is such a focus on the third trombone is because this piece is dedicated to Dale Turner who was the third trombone player in the T-Town Jazz Band and a founding member of the band. We tried to get him to improv a solo here and there, but he wouldn't do it. We figured if we wrote it into his part, he would play it, and so the next piece I was writing was Cherry Street Jaunt, so the 3rd trombone got a lot of love. Unfortunately, the band had to shut down for a time due to COVID-19, and during that time, Dale passed due to complications from it. As a result, he never saw the part I wrote to trick him into a solo. The MP3 is generated from the composition program, but the video link is a live performance.
